  • Learn how to build business models that work, and value propositions that sell

  • Work on Business Model and Value Proposition Canvases in our app

  • Attend an in-person masterclass

  • Read our books and take your business skills to the next level

Farid Mheir's insight:

I wrote about this in the past with different reviews of the nespresso business model http://www.scoop.it/t/digital-transformation-of-businesses?q=nespresso

I've never highlighted the strategyzer business model generator and the value proposition design solutions and tools and that is a shame. I believe it to be an essential knowledge for digital transformation.

Very often we must think outside the box and contemplate changing our fundamental business model when looking in the depth of a digital transformation - think how these new companies have revolutionized their industry model : Uber, airbnb, amazon, spotify, or nespresso.

Strategyzer is the company behind 2 approaches that you must absolutely master. Go through the site and first buy the books to get started. Or listen to this video presentation that describes how to present the business model canvas:

Farid Mheir's insight:

WHY IT MATTERS: read this very detailed report that explains how political parties have used the Facebook data to create personalized messages and influence the election that led to the Brexit. The path to #digital transformation not always paved with success: Australia’s Digital Transformation Stumbles Badly via @IEEE Spectrum | WHY IT MATTERS: Digital Transformation | Scoop.it

Failures cited in the report include outages at the Australian Taxation Office, significant operational difficulties with the Department of Human Services’ Online Compliance Intervention program, and the cancellation of the Australian Apprenticeship Management System project as not being fit for purpose, among others. Together, the operational issues and development failures reflect “broader systemic problems” with the government’s capability to deliver information and communications technology (sometimes abbreviated as ICT).

Farid Mheir's insight:

WHY IT MATTERS: you cannot force digital transformation. It needs to be a process of change, something governments - and some businesses - are not great at. Case in point in this article.

A New Tech Manifesto to envision a future where privacy, trust and personal data is valued properly #TrustIssues @medium | WHY IT MATTERS: Digital Transformation | Scoop.it

The promise of the internet isn’t that a few centralized powers will do everything for us. That’s the Old World, and we shouldn’t try to recreate it. The promise of an inter-networked world is that we can do more ourselves under new models of collaboration, whether in the fields of science or art or justice.
Imagine if we used our collective data to help us be better neighbors, partners, artists, citizens, and humans, rather than just better products to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Imagine, too, if we could hold technology companies accountable by demanding that they share power more equitably with the people who use and enable their products and services.

WHY IT MATTERS: as privacy and trust erodes, this article provides some insight on how to shape the future to bring back trust and value of privacy and personal data.

Page weight is an important metric to track, but we should always consider using appropriate statistical methods when tracking it on the web as a whole. Blockchain might have the disruptive potential to be the basis of new operating models, but its initial impact will be to drive operational efficiencies. Cost can be taken out of existing processes by removing intermediaries or the administrative effort of record keeping and transaction reconciliation. This can shift the flow of value by capturing lost revenues and creating new revenues for blockchain-service providers.

#Bitcoin may have been the worst first killer app for the #Blockchain because it is public: companies should rather look into permissioned use cases in the short term via @McKinsey | WHY IT MATTERS: Digital Transformation | Scoop.it

The economic incentives to capture value opportunities are driving incumbents to harness blockchain rather than be overtaken by it. Therefore, the commercial model that is most likely to succeed in the short term is permissioned rather than public blockchain. Public blockchains, like Bitcoin, have no central authority and are regarded as enablers of total disruptive disintermediation. Permissioned blockchains are hosted on private computing networks, with controlled access and editing rights.

Farid Mheir's insight:

WHY IT MATTERS: companies often dismiss the blockchain because of bitcoin failures. However this article suggests that there are other use case that should be considered first.

Myth and Reality about the #Blockchain via@McKinsey

Myth and Reality about the #Blockchain via@McKinsey | WHY IT MATTERS: Digital Transformation | Scoop.it

Blockchain is a distributed ledger, or database, shared across a public or private computing network. Each computer node in the network holds a copy of the ledger, so there is no single point of failure. Every piece of information is mathematically encrypted and added as a new “block” to the chain of historical records. Various consensus protocols are used to validate a new block with other participants before it can be added to the chain. This prevents fraud or double spending without requiring a central authority. The ledger can also be programmed with “smart contracts,” a set of conditions recorded on the blockchain, so that transactions automatically trigger when the conditions are met. For example, smart contracts could be used to automate insurance-claim payouts.

Beyond the hype: #Blockchain is 3 to 5 years from feasibility at scale via @McKinsey | WHY IT MATTERS: Digital Transformation | Scoop.it

Our analysis suggests the following three key insights on the strategic value of blockchain:
– Blockchain does not have to be a disintermediator to generate value, a fact that encouraages permissioned commercial applications.
– Blockchain’s short-term value will be predominantly in reducing cost before creating transformative business models.
– Blockchain is still three to five years away from feasibility at scale, primarily because of the difficulty of resolving the “coopetition” paradox to establish common standards.

Plant Your Flag, Mark Your Territory so as to protect your #privacy and #onlineIdentity - if not others will do it — via @briankrebs | WHY IT MATTERS: Digital Transformation | Scoop.it

Many people, particularly older folks, proudly declare they avoid using the Web to manage various accounts tied to their personal and financial data — including everything from utilities and mobile phones to retirement benefits and online banking services. The reasoning behind this strategy is as simple as it is alluring: What’s not put online can’t be hacked. But increasingly, adherents to this mantra are finding out the hard way that if you don’t plant your flag online, fraudsters and identity thieves may do it for you.

New study on #retail commerce trends in #Quebec released by #UQAM university shows local shopping online is top of mind for consumers, yet not well addressed by local retailers | WHY IT MATTERS: Digital Transformation | Scoop.it

Farid Mheir's insight:

WHY IT MATTERS: online shopping penetration is growing and now accounts anywhere from 10% to 50% of sales. However this study shows that consumers have a hard time finding local retailers and local products. I assume this is because the market attention is captured by very large providers - Amazon, Google, EBay, Alibaba, Walmart - leaving the corner retail store with a dilema: how to let shoppers know they exist. This is a problem that needs to be resolved. Or a business opportunity?
