Have you seen an RSA Animate video? Are you interested in learning how to make one or better yet, have your students make one? This post provides an in-depth look at how to go about have your students create an animated video that provides them with the opportunity to  practice 21st century skills (quoted from post below):

* collaborate with one another

* synthesize ideas

* create content

* communicate ideas clearly

* use technology

This activity is designed to have your students create content, providing you with materials to use in future classes as well as helping your current students understand the materiial.

The author, Jordan Collier, provides a detailed five-day plan. Day 1 would have you dividing students into groups of three, assign them a section of a chapter in a textbook, and determine the key facts that need to be taught. To read about how to assist them with this and the tasks for Day 2 - 5 click through to the post.

Salena Argar's curator insight, May 17, 2017 6:31 AM
Seven steps to the perfect story is a great visual representation of how to build a story. This clearly explains the process of how students can construct their narrative and the types of characters they will use. I would definitely use this in my classroom to help students understand the process of creating a narrative.

Book Creator for iPad Now Supports Handwriting - iPad Apps for Schools

Book Creator for iPad Now Supports Handwriting - iPad Apps for Schools | Digital Storytelling action! | Scoop.it

"The very popular iPad app Book Creator recently received a couple of updates of note. The first update was a new look for iOS 7 users. iOS 6 users will be happy to see that even though the app has been updated, it will still work the same way on their devices. The more important update to Book Creator is the addition of support for handwriting and free-hand drawing in your books."

Trisha Collins's curator insight, June 19, 2014 7:43 PM

Book Creator allows anyone to create their own books using images, text, videos, free-hand drawings, handwriting, and audio recordings. You can arrange your book in three different formats; portrait, square, or landscape. Each page in your book can include pictures and videos from your iPad’s camera roll and or from your iTunes library. In addition to the pictures and videos you can include as much as text as you can fit on each page. In fact, if you just want to have text on a page you can do that. If you would like to narrate your book you can tap the record button to add your voice to each page of your book. Every page in your book can have a custom color scheme. the only downside to this app is that it costs money!

janebeck's curator insight, May 15, 2016 10:21 AM

I can see this being a really useful tool to allow students to develop as storytellers, and to collate and organise information and imagery into a meaningful whole.  Perhaps a digital portfolio to describe the art, music or drama student's journey in investigation and processes?

Greg Mikkelsen's curator insight, June 3, 2016 8:24 AM
This could be great for students to create stories and then share them with their friends and wider learning community. Great for getting students to write Chinese characters with their hands even though they are using a computer.
