There’s a lot of hype out there about the next latest and greatest programming fad.

A lot of progress is being made in the programming world, but in general there’s not a silver-bullet single technology someone can learn that will immediately cure all problems.

Beginners are often encouraged to start digging into solutions for problems they don’t understand yet.

Recall - impact of Conservative win on the learning and skills agenda | innovation in vocational education | Scoop.it
paul sutherland 's insight:

Apprenticeships !!!  3 million more apprenticeships over the next 5 years.  But how are we supporting learning and skills needs beyond 25?

Business and industry demand for a better skilled workforce, changing skills needs (Reskilling), an ageing population (3rd careers), longer working lives, and of course globalisation all suggest we need great education and training for adults .

In March College leaders warned the latest 24% funding axe to further education will cost 190,000 adult course places....food for thought!

Digital Era Strategy: Thinking Beyond Disruption

Digital Era Strategy: Thinking Beyond Disruption | innovation in vocational education | Scoop.it

Rather than viewing the impact of technological innovation on established firms as either competence-destroying or competence-enhancing, organizational leaders should consider their competence-extending possibilities. Almost twenty years ago I published an academic article with Howard Aldrich that used examples from the then-burgeoning World Wide Web to illustrate how organizational communities are created and evolve. I recently re-read the piece and was pleasantly surprised to discover how well it has stood the test of time. One of the concepts we introduced in the article has continued to resonate with me, and I think it’s particularly important to consider given the media attention and ongoing emphasis on technological innovation as a disruptive force.

paul sutherland 's insight:

I totally agree with this outlook - however the challange to differentiate in the marketplace becomes even greater for suppliers as many firms (regardless of scale, capacity and even competence) can now  readily replicate extended service benefits / demonstrate similar service mix through third party SaaS and plug in white label offers with relatively low investment.  As most businesses do not have the luxury of a procurement team, it seems the SME leaderships ability to truly discern service quality and partnership value is increasingly vital.
