Get Ready: MOOCs Are Coming to K-12 -- THE Journal

Get Ready: MOOCs Are Coming to K-12 -- THE Journal | Digital Input | Scoop.it

Greg Thompson:

"Lurie believes the hybrid approach is one way to enhance knowledge and branch out from the lecture-based instruction that can grow stale, even when it comes from the best teachers. EdX-blended AP courses "could also provide a level playing field for all schools and all teachers, where in effect our courses become sort of a talking textbook," he says. "MOOCs can be a new set of resources for use by teachers locally in their own classrooms."

2013 Hottest E-Learning Trends [INFOGRAPHIC] | WPLMS | Digital Input | Scoop.it
Gamification - This is arguably one the most exciting developments. Learning based games can be implemented quite easily now in many elearning courses and learning management systems. In fact, if your LMS does not have a form of gamification, then you are doing your learning a disservice (even a simple achievements model).Mobile Technology – Devices like tablets and smartphones are allowing for learning to be on-the-move.  By 2016, the largest growth in mobile sales will be in notebooks and tablets by a significant margin.MOOCs – Possibly the most controversial trend, MOOCs are causing quite the stir, but the utility of the model is still not quite certain.  Still, the possibility of MOOCs is quite exciting.HTML5 – Enjoy better performance, multimedia, connectivity, among other benefits with HTML5. TinCan API – The next generation of reporting for learning and LMSs around the world, if your LMS doesn’t support TinCan, then you are in for major problems!  This year TinCan hit version 1.0, so expect to see even greater adoption the latter half of 2013.Responsive Web – With all the mobile technology, it’s imperative that websites display properly on the devices.

Curate Your Online Visual Portfolio with Dunked

Curate Your Online Visual Portfolio with Dunked | Digital Input | Scoop.it

"Dunked makes creating your online & mobile portfolio website super simple. Showcase your design, illustration, video and photography work on any device."

Robin Good's curator insight, June 11, 2013 3:17 AM

If you are looking for a free tool that allows you to easily create a visual portfolio of images and/or video clips, organized into categories, Dunked offers an excellent solution.

Simple, elegant and very straightforward to use, Dunked makes it easy to upload one or more pictures at a time and to arrange them on your portfolio page and into separate collections called Projects.

You can customize background, colors for all the elements on a page, fonts, logo and you can add a personalized About and Contact page.

My comments: Excellent visual portoflio tool for photographers, designers and artists of any kind. Compared to having an image or video collection on Pinterest, the difference is that the presentation style is much more elegant, and images are viewed by default at a much larger size. You also have fine control on individual text style, colors and other design elements. The absence of a bookmarklet further indicates that this tool has been designed with the photographer/artist/painter in mind and not to collect stuff found on the web.

Free to use.

Try it out now: http://dunked.com/

Google Sites not only offers an easy-to-use interface for publishing content to the web quickly, but also offers a host of integrations with other Google Apps services. You can easily embed documents, spreadsheets, and presentations you’ve created in Google Drive by using the insert function. The feature I really like is the ability to embed a video. Now that Drive allows you to store and play several video formats such as mp4 and wmv, you can easily upload your video to Drive and embed it on your site for others to view.

A Printable Acceptable Use Policy For Classroom iPads - Edudemic | Digital Input | Scoop.it
Looking for an acceptable use policy for your classroom iPads? This printable version is great for K-12 classrooms looking to make sure their investment stays safe.

If you’ve got a 1:1 iPad classroom or have at least one iPad being used by students, then you need an acceptable use policy. What might that entail, you ask? Well I’m so pleased you ask! Basically, it’s an agreement by the user (students, teachers, admins, whoever) to handle the iPad with care and return it just like they found it. Simple as that.

Moving Outside the LMS: Matching Web 2.0 Tools to Instructional Purpose | EDUCAUSE.edu

Moving Outside the LMS: Matching Web 2.0 Tools to Instructional Purpose | EDUCAUSE.edu | Digital Input | Scoop.it

ABSTRACT:

What considerations support the decision to either augment or replace an institution’s existing learning management system (LMS) with a cloud-based, Web 2.0 technology tool to support students’ learning? The use of instructional technologies should be evaluated against a backdrop of pedagogical objectives, and students’ selection of tools to support their learning can result in a more collaborative, constructive, and authentic learning experience. Instructors must balance the benefit of introducing new technology tools into the curriculum with the additional load—for instructors (supporting the tool) and students (learning the tool). This paper describes the experiences of an online graduate program in instructional technology at Georgia Southern University (GSU) and the program faculty who have chosen to move beyond the LMS.
