Op-Ed: ZIP Code Shouldn’t Determine the Tech Experiences of Students - Philly

Recently, I attended a leadership conference at a private school in Princeton. As I pulled up to the sprawling campus, I thought "Oh wow," how do we develop a campus like this for my scholars at Queen City Academy Charter School (QCACS). Once I stepped into the building, I was in a state of awe at the school's dedication to STEM and the technological tools that were at their disposal. From Apple laptops to Raspberry Pi computers and more, this school had its finger on the pulse of the digital tools that are necessary for scholars to thrive in today's world.

What's A Black Life Worth In Trump's America? Four Bucks, Evidently. Oops, Scratch That. Four Cents | digital divide information | Scoop.it

"June 02, 2018 "Information Clearing House" -  In what's been called "the most racist jury 'award' in history," a Florida jury has decided there was really no problem with cops shooting and killing Gregory Vaughn Hill Jr., 30, in 2014 because he was playing music too loudly in his own garage while drunk. (Need we add, Hill was black?) The civil verdict marked the dismal end to a longstanding wrongful death suit filed by Hill’s family in 2016, two years after St. Lucie County sheriff deputies turned up at Hill's house in Fort Pierce following complaints he'd been playing loud "F.U. music" in his garage as a nearby middle school was letting out for the day."

Your Wi-Fi Security Is Probably Weak. Here’s How to Fix That. - The New York Times

Your Wi-Fi Security Is Probably Weak. Here’s How to Fix That. - The New York Times | digital divide information | Scoop.it
Chances are that when you bought a Wi-Fi router, you probably did not prioritize strong network security.

After all, when we think about wireless connectivity in our homes, most of us generally care more about speed of data transmissions and how much range the router can cover.

But it’s time to change our views. Network security needs to be high on our list of considerations because a Wi-Fi station is the gateway for devices to get on the internet. If your router is infected with malicious software, all your internet-connected devices become vulnerable, including your smartphone, computer, smart watch, television and Amazon Echo.
