Does Gamification Education Really Improve Learning?

Does Gamification Education Really Improve Learning? | Digital competences in Education | Scoop.it
Students are used to playing games, earning badges for successfully completing challenges and sharing their wins with friends. The challenge of winning a level or beating an obstacle can keep them working until they can earn that achievement. Why not put that natural affinity for gaming to use with games that teach?

You can find the answer of this question in this article which have enough arguments to believe that gamification really improve learning. One of the arguments is that games can increase the motivation through the challenge; for example, the challenge of winning a level make that the students can keep working. However; is necessary that teachers choose an appropriate educational game in order to integrate it in the lesson plan. If you want more about the others arguments to this question, you can click on it.

How technology creates facilitative disruption in the classroom

How technology creates facilitative disruption in the classroom | Digital competences in Education | Scoop.it
There is no doubt that technology has the potential to be a major disruptor in the classroom. There are two kinds of disruption: facilitative, or “good”, disruption; and debilitating, or “bad”, disruption. So what matters most is the type of disruption being caused not so much the disruption itself.

Interesting short article from David Nunan.

Antonio Bautista's curator insight, November 16, 2016 2:01 AM
In agreement with the article, we should encourage our students to think in an innovative way in order to foster their agency for learning and in that way create opportunities for facilitative disruption to take place. Moreover, in order to avoid debilitating disruption is important to always keep in mind that technology should be used as a means, that is as a support or complement and not as a suplement of materials of class. In that way, we would be avoiding to screw everything up when technology fails by having a plan B.

10 best practices for teaching with digital content

10 best practices for teaching with digital content | Digital competences in Education | Scoop.it
As students and teachers continue to have increased access to digital tools and resources, there is a shift in the traditional instructional practices that have been used for teaching and learning. Textbooks are no longer the primary source of information, and students can fact check their teachers with the devices in their pockets. Also, content has to be more than just digitized textbooks and documents. Students must interact with digital content and produce new ways to show what they have learned. Here is my list of ten strategies for teaching with digital content, but please share your original ideas.

4 Secrets to Learning Anything, According to Neuroscience

4 Secrets to Learning Anything, According to Neuroscience | Digital competences in Education | Scoop.it
The future of work is all about innovation and agility. We have to be prepared for ever-changing circumstances, and that means being open to learning new things.

Learning is no longer something we just do in schools. We can't rely on just the skillset we knew when we entered the workforce--that will guarantee career stagnation.

NLI has recently been exploring how to make ideas stick. Through their research, they created a model outlining four key conditions for effective learning: Attention, Generation, Emotion and Spacing (AGES).

Here's a quick overview of the AGES model:

Attention: When you learn, maintain a single focus having complete and undivided attention.

Generation: Listening isn't enough. Heighten the likelihood of memory retention by doing something with the information you're learning. Create a situation that will make this information meaningful.

Emotion: Strong emotions lead to strong memories. Look for ways to build an emotional connection to what you're learning.

Spacing: In order to grow memory, you need a break in between learning.
