When ad targeting goes wrong | Digital Advertising | Scoop.it

Sure, we're all mildly suspicious about targeted advertising. But if your browsing habits indicate that you're a raging homophobe who really thinks Obama is trying to force gay marriage down the throats of an unwilling public, as the ad in the top right reflects, maybe this is the kind of thing that could change your mind.

Google Acquires Wildfire, Will Now Sell Facebook And Twitter Marketing Services

Google Acquires Wildfire, Will Now Sell Facebook And Twitter Marketing Services | Digital Advertising | Scoop.it

Google has just bought social marketing software developer Wildfire, which lets brands serve marketing and ad campaigns on Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube and LinkedIn.

The acquisition will allow Google to provide advanced software and services to brands who want to run contests, sweepstakes, branded games and more on Google+. Wildfire will still operate as a marketing tool for brands on Google’s competing platforms, including Facebook, putting the search giant in a curious position where it earns money on the success of its rivals.

Why Google+ Is a Ghost Town [Infographic]

Why Google+ Is a Ghost Town [Infographic] | Digital Advertising | Scoop.it

An infographic details that Google+ has low activity compared to other networks.

There’s a lot of conflicting data out there about Google+. A few studies over the past few months have portrayed the fledgling social network as relatively moribund, but another recent report from Experian Hitwise says visits to the network are growing substantially, hitting 34.9 million for the week ended Aug. 4 compared to 21.9 million visits for the week ended July 21 — a 59% jump in two weeks.

Whether the network is thriving or not, this research from Umpf, a UK-based social media firm, shows that activity on G+ is low compared to other social networks.
