The Most Common Mistake During Negotiations

The Most Common Mistake During Negotiations | Diamonds | Scoop.it

Their most common mistake is focusing on what they want when they should be devoting their attention to learning what the other side wants, and how badly. If you can do that without showing your hand, you wind up controlling the process. You can craft a deal that satisfies the other side while getting what's most important to you..

The Iceberg That Sinks Organizational Change

The Iceberg That Sinks Organizational Change | Diamonds | Scoop.it

Some aspects of organizational culture are visible on the surface, like the tip of an iceberg, while others are implicit and submerged within the organization. Because these ingrained assumptions are tacit and below the surface, they are not easy to see or deal with, although they affect everything the organization does.

The Trust Agenda

The Trust Agenda | Diamonds | Scoop.it

The impact of these trends is radically changing society’s expectations of business. And the extent to which a business behaves in line with these expectations determines how trustworthy it is perceived to be. Trust is pivotal because it is the basis of every human relationship, every transaction, and every market. Trustworthiness is the foundation of a business’s “license to operate” in any region or industry. All of this is causing chief executives to think strategically about international business ethics—specifically, how trustworthy their companies need to be.

Don’t Ask for New Ideas If You’re Not Ready to Act on Them

Don’t Ask for New Ideas If You’re Not Ready to Act on Them | Diamonds | Scoop.it

Companies that focus on innovation often worry about how to encourage people to contribute ideas. But what happens when you ask people to participate in an innovation effort, and then get flooded with too many suggestions? Innovation requires more than just coming up with ideas. In fact, ideation may be the easiest part of the process, particularly when new platforms and tools make it easy for people to contribute. Filtering and selecting the right ideas, and then prototyping, pivoting, piloting, and ultimately scaling them, in the midst of competing priorities and limited resources, is much more difficult. So if you’re going to start an innovation effort, think about how to orchestrate the process after you have ideas to work with. Another key lesson is to be more specific about the focus and criteria for submitted ideas. If the parameters are too general, it becomes difficult to sort out the wheat from the chaff.

Creating What Consumers Want

Creating What Consumers Want | Diamonds | Scoop.it

although CPG companies are extremely good at the early stages of innovation—identifying promising areas of growth and creating new product ideas in those areas—and at the later stages of testing concepts and commercializing them, there’s a conspicuous hole in the middle of the process. They don’t have a clear grasp of which combinations of features, packaging, price, and even labeling will persuade consumers to make a purchase. They’re like triathletes who are world-class at swimming and running, but terrible at cycling.

AW Second Hand Rings's curator insight, November 13, 2014 6:18 AM

Men seem to be a bit unadventurous when it comes to rings, most don't wear an engagement ring and wedding bands seem to be limited to plain gold bands.  However, trends are changing and coloured diamonds in mens rings are becoming more popular.  Naturally occuring coloured diamonds are rarer than clear, and tend to be more expensive so if you choose to buy your man a ring with coloured stones, you are also giving him an investment piece.

Diamonds found in meteorite that fell in Sierra Gold Country

Diamonds found in meteorite that fell in Sierra Gold Country | Diamonds | Scoop.it
Researchers have discovered small diamonds in the fragments of a meteorite that fell in the Sierra’s Gold Country, offering a glimpse into the prehistory of our solar system, NASA officials said Friday. [...] what they lack in size they make up for in scientific value, researchers said, as the diamonds’ discovery lends NASA a rare window into some of the matter that contributed to the formation of the solar system 4.5 billion years ago. Many of the chemical signatures of substances that existed before the formation of the solar system have been left on space rocks, but scientists rarely get a chance to study them, said Qing-Zhu Yin, a UC Davis researcher and co-lead of the Sutter’s Mill Meteorite Consortium.
