Castle Drogo - Visitor information - National Trust

The 'last castle to be built in England' with dramatic views over Dartmoor
Inside this remarkable granite building, set above the Teign Gorge, is a surprisingly warm and comfortable family home.

Commissioned by retail tycoon Julius Drewe, and designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, the castle harks back to a romantic past, while its brilliant design heralds the modern era.

Behind the imposing façade, poignant family keepsakes sit alongside 17th-century tapestries. The dramatic Dartmoor setting can be appreciated from the delightful formal garden and walks into a rhododendron valley.

Tours and fun activities are arranged throughout the year. Our visitor centre and café specialising in local produce have been enlarged and improved.

Don't miss

Within the austere granite castle, discover unexpected family comforts
Explore the Arts and Crafts-inspired garden
Enjoy the estate's changing landscapes, from moorland to woodland
Explore the Dartmoor orchard and wildflower meadow area
Follow in Mr Drewe's footsteps along the gorge edge
Discover Drogo’s dramatic battle for survival
