Team SBK Ducati Alstare has announced that further complications from the serious crash Carlos Checa suffered last weekend in Turkey have revealed a pelvis fracture at the femoral head, an injury that requires surgery and a minimum 10 week recovery time. Checa will not race Monza tomorrow

Checa will not race Monza tomorrow | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

Checa's shoulder injury forces him to forfeit the Monza weekend Monza (Italy), Saturday 11 May 2013: Carlos Checa and Team SBK Ducati Alstare have decided that the Spanish rider will not take part in today's sessions or tomorrow’s races at the ‘Autodromo di Monza’. During the last week Carlos Checa has been receiving treatment for an osseous edema to the humerus of the left shoulder. This physical problem conditioned yesterday’s sessions, with Checa reporting pain in his shoulder. Overnight the inflammation worsened and early this morning, after consultation with both the doctors of the Clinica Mobile and Ducati Alstare’s management, it was decided that Carlos should not ride and should instead continue to recuperate in order to be back in shape in 2-3 weeks time. Checa will therefore not participate in the rest of the practice sessions or tomorrow’s races and will concentrate on preparing for the next round, to take place in two weeks at Donington Park (UK).

Carlos Checa has given the brand-new Ducati 1199R a perfect qualifying debut by claiming pole position for the opening round of the 2013 World Superbike Championship at Phillip Island.

A tenth career pole position for the man that has won four of the last five WSBK races to be held at the Australian venue, Checa would save his best until last as he swept to the top of the standings with his final lap...

Checa and Hayden would make SBK as popular as MotoGP for me.

Friday brought rain and an early end to the three day test but even that could not hide the progress potential that seems possible for Ducati in both Motogp and SBK trim.

CHECA RETURNS TO THE PODIUM AT PORTIMAO

CHECA RETURNS TO THE PODIUM AT PORTIMAO | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

Another complicated race day for the Althea Racing team today at the ‘Autodromo Internacional do Algarve’.

In race 1 Carlos Checa rode a great race to take his first podium since Brno while Davide Giugliano was robbed of his chance to do well after a collision early on in the race forced him to retire. In the second of the day’s races Giugliano was once again unlucky, suffering from presumed tyre problems while Checa was able to bounce back after a technical issue in the early stages to cross the line fifth.
After two hot and sunny days the Superbike paddock awoke to heavy rain and poor visibility on the Portimao track. After only a fifteen minute warm-up, the riders had little time to prepare for racing in these conditions.
