Why Do Teachers Need Instructional Coaches?

Why Do Teachers Need Instructional Coaches? | Desenho de Educação | Scoop.it
Instructional Coaching

According to Jim Knight, someone I work with as an instructional coaching trainer, up to 90% of what teachers learn alongside coaches will be retained. This means, that unlike traditional professional development where Knight's research shows that teachers lose 90% of what they learn, coaching can provide an enormous impact.

Knight's work is highly respected, and is highly respectful of teachers. Instructional coaching, in Knight's research and philosophy, is about working in partnership with teachers where the learning is reciprocal on the part of the teacher and coach. After all, we can learn a lot from one another.

In order for coaching to work properly, the school has to have a climate conducive to learning, which means that there needs to be a balance between risk-taking and rule following.  It also means that teachers need to be able to trust that the coaching-teaching relationship will be confidential, something Knight believes both parties should come to an agreement on before the coaching relationship even begins.

The 6 Levels Of Bloom's Taxonomy, Explained With Active Verbs - Edudemic | Desenho de Educação | Scoop.it
The various levels of Bloom’s (Revised) Taxonomy are pretty well known to most teachers at this point. The gradated levels of critical thinking allow teachers to build lesson plans and identify learning outcomes that are appropriate for the level of exploration of material for the students at that time. El presente estudio trata de tomar el pulso, en el caso español, a estos dos factores considerados claves para el cambio: por un lado, el estado de los recursos TIC puestos a disposición de la práctica educativa; por otro, la actitud del profesorado ante su integración.

Audiovisual, interactivo, actualizable, adaptable y personalizable.

The psychology of eLearning: What makes eLearning memorable?

The psychology of eLearning: What makes eLearning memorable? | Desenho de Educação | Scoop.it

The first post in our psychology series discussed the psychology of storytelling. Storytelling is an extremely useful tool for learning and memory and is one of the many different techniques used in elearning.

Stories, pictures, experiences; these are the things we remember. You can sit in a formal training environment all day long, and chances are you will still only retain a fraction of the information presented to you. It isn’t because you aren’t paying attention; traditional training often simply fails to be memorable. In the end it comes down to the psychology of learning or, in this case, the psychology of elearning.

Every day employers are struggling to figure out how to improve knowledge retention, which requires getting information into long-term memory and keeping it there.

Remembering requires interest, motivation, and repetition. You have to see it, hear it, touch it, enjoy it. In the end, storing something in memory takes work and effort, so you have to make your information worthy of remembering. eLearning is revolutionary, giving you the opportunity to design more effective training.
