Code rant: Visual Studio: Multiple Startup Projects

Code rant: Visual Studio: Multiple Startup Projects | Desarrollo .Net ES-EN | Scoop.it

I’ve been using Visual Studio for over 10 years, but still keep on learning new tricks. That’s because I learn things very slowly dear reader! Today’s ‘wow, I didn’t know you could do that moment’, was finding out that it’s possible to launch multiple startup projects when one hits F5 – or Control-F5 in this case.

Pedro Hernandez's insight:

WPF Composites is a project designed to provide an alternative, concise, C# code-behind approach to managing UI Element composites. Composites are normally managed via WPF Databinding and DataTemplates but this library uses ID's and X-Y Coordinates instead to position elements on the screen. This is currently for synchronous apps only or apps that invoke on the UI Thread when working with Composites. This library is still alpha and under-construction. However, I welcome volunteers! NO XAML. NO DATATEMPLATES REQUIRED!

Tip: a common error with Dependency Property metadata

Tip: a common error with Dependency Property metadata | Desarrollo .Net ES-EN | Scoop.it

Recently someone pointed me to a malfunction on one of my examples. He sent me a repro project and, after I've run the example, I found the problem as he described it to me. But it took me a long time to figure out the reason. The problem was really simple: an instance of a templated control in a page seems to share a property with another instance of the same control in another page... This sounds impossible at first sight but if the property is a Dependency Property the issue is real. Here is the original code

WPF: How to Find Control Location.

Pedro Hernandez's insight:

Anyway. You know that WPF does UI layout itself and usually you should not specify the exact place for your controls. But sometimes you need to know the exact location of the control. Windows Forms solution is easy: just use Control.Location property which returns you the upper-left corner of the control relative to the upper-left corner of its container. You can achieve the same functionality using Visual.PointToScreen method. It requires one parameter – a Point. The Point is the current coordinates system. It is usually the window’s upper-left corner (0, 0).
