What is the teeth in an hour dental implant procedure?

What is the teeth in an hour dental implant procedure? | Dental Implants | Scoop.it

This is a Nobel Biocare trademarked procedure in which the implants and replacement crowns are fitted all in one go, rather than waiting for six months between the first and second stages. It might suit patients who don’t want to wait for that period of time. However, patient qualifications are exceptionally high due to the need for ample high quality jawbone.

Murry Shohat's insight:

When you walk out of the dentist's office an hour later, your teeth or tooth in an hour is subject to chewing forces that they may not be able to handle. This procedure is expensive and ill-advised for patients with lower jawbone quality and quantity.

Legal Cases: Mandibular implant placement with resulting paresthesia | Dental Implants | Scoop.it
In their latest column, William S. Spiegel and Dr. Marc R. Leffler present a case from a general dentist's office. This dentist, experienced in implant placement and restoration, saw a 49-year old patient for a single implant. What happened during and after treatment is a cautionary tale.
Murry Shohat's insight:

These guys won't say it directly, but their post-case admonitions clearly call for 3D CBCT as the proper X-ray technology for treatment planning. For an illustration of this case, just look at the top left story on page 1, here.

Dental Implant Surgery: What you can expect - Mayo Clinic

Dental Implant Surgery: What you can expect - Mayo Clinic | Dental Implants | Scoop.it

The entire process can take many months from start to finish. Much of that time is devoted to healing and waiting for the growth of new bone in your jaw.

Murry Shohat's insight:

Mayo Clinic's comprehensive but simple description is very useful. However, it is missing a BIG POINT: treatment planning usually requires a precision X-ray to evaluate bone depth, quality and angulation for implantation. The sole candidate X-ray is the CBCT or cone beam computed tomogram. CBCT is the only techology that enables 3D views through image reformatting.
