Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was a founding document of the United States and served to separate the U.S. from Great Britain. This persuasive essay was written as a list of complaints about England in order to justify the right of the people to abolish the oppressive English government and create a new government that would secure the inalienable rights of all human beings.

Engrossed Declaration of Independence | DocsTeach: Documents | Declaration of Independence | Scoop.it

Here we have the Engrossed Declaration of Independence, precisely as it was written between June 11 and June 28th, 1776.  This is an image of the actual document.  Note the beliefs of John Locke portrayed in the intriduction and preamble of the document.  Note particularly the wording of "inalienable rights" and the right of the people to abolish the government which does not protect these.  These words were directly taken from John Locke's Two Treatise on Government.

Patriotism, Then and Now

Patriotism, Then and Now | Declaration of Independence | Scoop.it

This article was written shortly after the terrorist accacks of 9-11 and is found in a libertarian thinktank created by Lew Rockwell.  The article draws connections between the actions of the British government during the late 19th Century to that of the American government following times of crisis, while arguing against government protectionism and interventionism on the basis of the Declaration of Independence and John Lock's ideals.
