Adrienne Fernandes and Alli DePari's insight:

ABC's new television show, Resurrection, is  television show that exempliflies the literary theme of Death and Rebirth. In this new 2014 television show, Jacob is the main character. Jacob wakes up in a rice field in China, with no recollection of how he got there. Jacob is from Arcadia, Missouri and died 30 years ago. This show resembles the mystery of dying and living, for the loved ones in Jacob's life struggle to comprehend how someone who died could come back to life to start a new beginning.

I really liked the part of your presentation around the commercial. You both seemed especially well prepared to talk about it and clearly like this show. Very good job. ~Dillon

I agree with Dillon, this was a very good example of your archetype of Death and Rebirth and it was a highlight of your presentation! ~Danny
Alex Pena's comment, March 20, 2014 10:38 PM
Although I do agree with both Dillon and Danny that this show was a very good example of your archetype, it seemed too obvious to me. The shows name is Resurrection, and without the use of the death/rebirth archetype there would be no show. Maybe you could have looked deeper to find a show where the archetype is still represented in depth, but maybe in a less obvious way.~Alex

Children's Book - Frosty the Snowman

Children's Book - Frosty the Snowman | Death and Rebirth | Scoop.it
Adrienne Fernandes and Alli DePari's insight:

In the popular children's story of Frosty the Snowman, a group of children create their own snowman friend. He is just a normal snowman until he suddenly comes to life from a magic hat. All of the children have fun with Frosty until one day he gets too warm. Before the childrens' eyes, Frosty melts into a puddle of water. However, he leaves the children with the promise that he will return someday. Normally, in the archetype of Death and Rebirth, winter represents death, in this case however spring represents death because Frosty melts. The archetype of Death and rebirth could shape a child's understanding of society because the story shows how it is important to live each day like it is the last.

Literary Criticism

Adrienne Fernandes and Alli DePari's insight:

This literary criticism focuses on William Butler Yeat's poem " The Second Coming". Within this article, Harold Bloom depicts his intake on the meaning of "rebirth" and " renewal". There are several instances in which he defines the meaning of these words. To undergo a "rebirth" does not always mean to physically die. Undergoing some sort of transformation can signify a new beginning.

Adrienne Fernandes and Alli DePari's insight:

In this image, people are seen as growing seeds. Some people are still developing while one person has been reborn as a tree. In this image, it can be thought that since people are put into the ground after death, maybe they are reborn into other forms of nature such as this tree. It shows how even after death, people or creatures can provide life for something else. Also, there is a light that the tree person is looking up at which is giving the tree person life.

Music Video - Carrie Underwood - Blown Away - YouTube

Music video by Carrie Underwood performing Blown Away. (P) 2012 19 Recordings Limited, under exclusive license to Sony Music Nashville, a division of Sony Mu...
Adrienne Fernandes and Alli DePari's insight:

For the music video represeting the literary theme of Death and Rebirth, we choose the music video of Carrie Underwood's song " Blown Away". In this music video, Carrie portrays a girl who has an alcoholic/abusive father. The house in which both of them live in is toxic and depressing. As a tornado hits town, Carrie's father is passed out drunk and refuses to wake up. Carrie ends up saving herself, allowing him and the awful house to perish. The music video shows the transition from a miserable lifestyle into her becoming a new person once her father and their house is put into the past.
