Hard Winter Everywhere

Winter isn't letting go at the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. "We've had a really unusual year this year," said Suzanne Flory, Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest Public Affairs Officer. "We have tons of snow all across the 1.5 million acres." All that snow provided a big boost to winter sports, but it's now creating problems for spring activities, including camping at the forest's 53 campgrounds. "Typically we don't open the campgrounds until early May, and this year, if the weather continues as it has been, it might be a little later than usual." said Flory. Suzanne Flory has worked for the national forest for 6 years. She said during that time, the park hasn't ever had to delay the start of camping season because of the weather. "I think if you talk to people around here, no one can really remember a winter like this," said Flory. Weather isn't just impacting activities at the forest. The long winter is also delaying the opening of ATV trails in Marathon County. "There's no issue on hiking on the trails," said Jon Daniels, Marathon Co. Snowmobile/ATV Coordinator . "It's just the ATVs, mountain bikes, and horses can cause significant damage with the saturated soils and that will result in damage to the trails." Officials there hope to open the trails by May 15, but if the weather doesn't warm up enough that may get pushed back as well.

Rock Climbing Route In UK Preserved In Clean Up Toughest Rock Climbing Route In UK Preserved In Clean Up

Climbing routes on one of Scotland’s toughest crags has been preserved during a spruce-up to remove graffiti. Dumbarton Rock is home to Dave MacLeod’s E11-graded Rhapsody, the hardest rock-climbing route in Britain. A row erupted last summer over plans to clean graffiti off the extinct volcano on the north bank of the Clyde. But after consultation with the Mountaineering Council of Scotland, climbers’ representatives said they were happy with the work carried out to remove the unsightly scrawls on the rockface Andrea Partridge, access officer for the Mountaineering Council of Scotland said: “Dumbarton Rock is recognised throughout the international climbing community as having some of the hardest climbing and boulder problems and it has played a significant role in the development of climbing. “The MCofS is pleased to be working in co-operation with Historic Scotland and local climbers to improve the appearance of the area. “Through close liaison with the contractors we ensured that the climbing heritage was protected and safety for all users is improved.” The rock is a historic site as well as being a Mecca for climbers. Dumbarton Rock is of national importance because it has one of the longest recorded histories as a stronghold in Britain. Over the centuries, the volcanic rock has played a key role in the country’s history having acted as a natural fortress location. The graffiti removal is part of Historic Scotland’s work to look after the ancient setting of the rock and contribute to a more pleasant environment for those using the area. The clean-up was carried out using methods that will not damage the rock and ensure its natural appearance is restored. Joann Russell, Historic Scotland’s head of conservation for the south region, said: “Dumbarton Rock is a major landmark and focal point for the local community. It also has a significant place in Scotland and Britain’s history. “Despite its protection in law, it has not deterred graffiti defacing the rock. This has become an issue for us and, understandably, it is a concern for the local community. “We are committed to protecting the rock and ensuring its natural look is restored in a sensitive manner that will not affect the rock’s fabric. This work will contribute to the improvement of the area’s appearance and make it a more enjoyable place to visit.”

How To Write A CV

How To Write A CV This guide will explain exactly how to write a CV that will work for you today, even in the most competitive of job markets. (1) What sort of job will you be looking for? The very first question you need to ask yourself is “What is the ideal job for me?”. the answer to this question will dictate everything else that comes afterwards. please don’t fool yourself- whilst following this advice will get you a very large head start on your competition, if you are not qualified for the role in question, you’re wasting everyone’s time. Qualified surgeons are the people that i want operating on me if I ever need to have an operation, not people pretending to be qualified. (2) Research the company and/ or profession If you are serious about a job role or a move into a sector, please make sure that you know everything that you can possibly know. The reason is that the purpose of the CV is to get you interviewed- once you are being interviewed, this preparation will help you enormously. (3) Get your information together Get a blank sheet of paper and write down every job role that you can remember doing. The Cv will need to be written in reverse chronological order, starting with your most recent job role. When you have the month and year and job title of each job role that you have been employed in then detail then think about what you achieved or delivered for every employer. By achieved, I mean that employers are only really interested in one thing- exactly what you can do for them. if you can show that you have delivered significant benefits for employers in the past then it stands to reason that they might see that you have been a productive employee in the past and therefore should be in the future. (4) Qualifications Get together all the qualifications that you can find. get the certificates together so when it comes to writing everything down, all the information will be at hand and most importantly factually correct- it is never OK to lie on the CV so make this a priority. You will set yourself apart as most people cannot be bothered to get all this information together. (5) Hobbies and interests This is a minor point, however some employers will be interested in what you have done or do for a living. One simple point though- please make sure again that you tell the truth. If someone says that they read, at some point in the interview, I will bring the subject up and ask what was the last book that they read. You would be amazed at how many people freeze at this point- they clearly don’t read. Putting it all together- How To Write A CV Because you have researched the company and the sector that you are looking to work in, the first part of the Cv will be pretty easy to write. the career profile or objective is the first thing on the CV after your personal contact information. The Americans call this an elevator statement. this is a short introduction that you can amke to yourself, mentioning what you have done in the past and what you are looking to do in the future. The next section is the key achievements section. Taking the achievements that you listed down from the emplotment that you completd in the section earlier, choose the best 5-7 bullet points and detail this in a key achievements section on the CV. Work experience next and remebering to put things in reverse chronological order, detail 5-7 bullet pointed achievements for your most recent or current role and 3-5 for the previous jobs. Qualifications come next, then training courses, then hobbies and interests. The very last section covers languages, nationality and whether you can work in the country, i.e. visa or residential status. If you want to get some more information, please call or email and we will be happy to help.

The Best Resume Writing Services

To paraphrase Tina Turner, to be the best, you’re better than all the rest. When it comes to resume writing services, there is a wide variety of choice out there as to which ones to choose. Simply by entering “best resume writing services” into a search engine, no doubt you will find hundreds if not thousands of answers in Google or any other search engine that you happen to use. In 2012, just before Christmas, I was laid low through a pretty nasty chest infection. While suffering from “man flu”, I took the time to go back through the results that we have gained for our customers and found out something pretty amazing. Just before I get to that, remember that we don’t always hear back from all of our customers- some don’t come back to us and so we don’t know what happened to them. the majority of people; howveer will let us know if they have difficulties and so we find ways of helping them out. Going back through saved emails, I found out that every single customer we dealt with in 2012 got the results they were looking for. In some cases, this meant that they got the job they were applying for, in other cases, people got into University, got promoted, or in some cases got a promotion. Many people who had previously been unemployed got that all important job role and solved real financial issues that were affecting them and their family. This experience was incredibly humbling, affecting people’s lives in such a positive way was something that we set out to do when we started the business and it really does look like we are succeeding in our goal. Does that make us the best resume writing services business out there? Who knows? Clearly there must ne other resume writing services businesses out there and some of them I’m sure will have got similar results for their customers. We also set out at the beginning of the business to give away a free resume writing sevice every single month to one deserving person. We have managed also this year to do just that as well, we never advertise this fact on our main website, just hiding the information in posts like this as we don’t really like to blow our own trumpets all the time. We choose people who are struggling, need the service and can’t afford it or in some way touched our heart and didn’t go begging us to do the resume for them for nothing. There are some other very good resume writing services out there and i’m sure that some will be cheaper that us but I can’t believe that any of them will have got better results than we have- it simply can’t be possible. they may well have had more customers that used their resume writing service; howveer as a percentage, we can truly claim to be the best resume writing services business operating from the UK. We write resumes for people all over the world and would love to help you in your quest for a much better job.

Blockbuster video calls in administrators

The US-backed company is the third major retailer to go into administration in less than a week following the failures of HMV and Jessops. Together, the retailers employed 10,330 staff and have almost 1,000 stores in the UK. Britain is now on course for a record number of store closures this month — more than the 807 that closed due to the demise of Woolworths in January 2009, according to the Local Data Company, which measures the number of empty shops on the high street. Administrators Deloitte said it had already had three expressions of interest in Blockbuster. It also thought that supermarket chains including Wm Morrison and Tesco are considering bids for Blockbuster sites to use them as convenience stores.

European Parliament approves credit rating agency rules

The European Parliament on Wednesday approved rules on the way credit rating agencies rate companies’ financial strength and states’ debts. The rules, which have provisional approval from the European Council, would enable investors to sue rating agencies for negligence if, for example, a rating relied upon by an investor was issued outside of the published calendar of agreed dates for ratings, among other things. The rules state that ratings should not seek to influence state policies and that rating agencies must not advocate policy changes, among other things. In addition, the rules would cap the shareholdings that agencies can hold in organizations they rate at 10%. They also would bar anyone from simultaneously holding stakes of more than 5% in more than one credit rating agency.

Are Recruiters Prejudiced Or Is My CV In Need Of Attention?

Prejudice is a horrible word. History tells us that the human race seems to have a self destruct button and many global conflicts have their origins in prejudice, suspicion and hatred. Some people have contacted me in the past and suggested that their Cv was being rejected and they believed that recruiters and employers were being prejudiced against them The law in the UK protects people against prejudice and discrimination on the grounds of race, sexual orientation, disability, colour, religion, sex, age and many other things. The simple truth; however is that people do have prejudices and, distasteful as it may seem there are prejudiced managers that are responsible for employing people at all levels of authority, not just in the Uk but all over the world. In general, recruiters are very careful to stay inside the law when it comes to rejecting applicants for a job role. If your application or CV is rejected, you are completely within your rights to ask the reasons for the rejection. The reply may not give you all the details that you need; however are useful feedback which gives you an opportunity to act upon. The quality of the CV that recruiters receive varies enormously- i have seen some excellent as well as some truly awful CVs and the truth is that rejection of the CV in the vast majority of cases is down to the quality of the CV rather than some deep held prejudice that an employer may or may not have. Some years ago, I had the privilege of working for one of the largest cash and carry organisations in the UK. the staff at the business were predominantly Asian, many having successfully moved to the UK from India, Pakistan and elsewhere. Whilst travelling to a meeting with a colleague that had moved to the UK from Pakistan, he remarked that the UK was the very best country for someone with his background to move to, better than the USA, Australia, Canada and many others. When pressed as to the reasons why that was the case, he answered that the vast majority of the British people were fair minded, gave people a chance and if you were prepared to work hard, you would get on and not get held back. this answer didn’t surprise me- I have found the vast majority of Brits to be fair minded and definitely accepting, welcoming and not in the least prejudiced. So if your CV does get rejected, before leaping to any unfounded conclusion- get your Cv checked out professionally- it could well be the CV- I’d be amazed if it was anything else.

Social Media, Your CV and Your Job Application

Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and the like) is now a part of the fabric of daily life, all over the world. In the United States and the UK alone, there are over 200 million registered users on Facebook and staggeringly, over 50% of the potential market (people over 14 years of age) are registered Facebook users. Considering that the usage is plateauing now and the market is relatively mature, it stands to reason that recruiters and potential employers will almost certainly be registered with Facebook and other Social media websites and a proportion will definitely use Social Media to check employee suitability for a job role at some stage of the interview process. Of course employers need to comply with all applicable legislation on the statute books in their own country. For example, Germany considered banning the use of Facebook in pre-employment screening. Companies (employers and recruiters) need to take all steps necessary to protect themselves from being accused of discrimination on the grounds of gender, race, sexuality, etc., particularly when some candidates openly put that information into the public domain. Discrimination is discrimination regardless of the source of the information leading to the decision to discriminate. The simple truth; however is that we will not always tell the truth when asked a question that has potential downsides. When asked if an employer used Facebook to check out the suitability of a job applicant, how many will actually admit to so doing? The legal and ethical positions surrounding the use of social media are changing daily on the internet; mobile phones and new ways of sharing information are created and adopted all the time. So what does this mean for you and your Facebook or Linkedin profile? One option is for you to stand up as a guardian of free speech, say what you like on your Facebook page and share it with the whole world. You would be perfectly within your rights to do so (as long as you are not breaking any laws); however is that really the wisest thing to do? I have a close friend who I love dearly, he is on Facebook, and indeed we are friends on Facebook. Some of the information that he shares openly on his Facebook page is, shall we say, near the mark in terms of the legality, fairness and potential offensiveness that is displayed. I know him, understand and care for him and realise exactly where he comes from in terms of his viewpoint. In fact, he is one of the most genuine, caring individuals that I have the good fortune to know. The point is; however that other people may not come to the same conclusion that I do when seeing what is posted openly on the Social Media pages. My real point here is that you simply do not know who will look at information that you post on social media sites- you have no idea on their particular views, prejudices, standards and the like and you would be well advised to be really careful about exactly what you do and do not share with the social media world. I’m not saying that you need to be boring; I am saying that you need to be careful. To see what information is currently available about you on the internet right now, search for “your name” and Facebook profile, CV or town and see what comes back- you may be shocked and surprised- hopefully not. My best advice is that you should never post anything about yourself online that someone you care about may find difficult to read. If you wouldn’t want your grandmother, partner, best friend or head teacher to see it, perhaps it is best to keep that information to yourself.

Please Don't Take Chances With Flood Water

The recent spell of bad weather has seen river and ground water levels rising in the UK to record levels. Rivers are exciting places to play in but at this time of year, with the level of water and strength of current being so high, please stay away from the. The average rainfall this year to date is approximately 50% more than the for the whole of the last ten years. Stay away from flood water in this or in any other country that you happen to be in, it is dangerous, unpredictable and you could get yourself and others into a whole heap of danger that you can easily avoid. Be careful particularly as to the depth of water. What looks like a shallow river can be deceptively deep, particularly as you can't see the depth of water due to the amount of mud and other debris contained in the flood water and therefore the water could be much deeper than you think. Don't drive your vehicle through flood water please. We want people to have a safe gap year experience, exciting, yes but above all we want you to return home safe and sound to your family with stories and adventures to relate but in one piece.

App To Help WIth Backpackers Safety

THE charity set up in memory of York teenager Caroline Stuttle, who was murdered while backpacking in Australia, is designing a mobile-phone application to help young travellers. Caroline’s Rainbow Foundation was set up to help prepare young travellers to travel safely after Caroline was robbed and pushed from a bridge in Australia ten years ago. The charity plans to launch its free travel safety awareness “app” next March, backed by Knaresborough-based company GotFocus Solutions. Caroline’s brother, Richard Stuttle, a founder and director of the foundation, said the idea was to cover every country and capital city in the world and provide useful advice to aid people on gap years and trips abroad. He said: “It’s a very big job, but I think it’s very very worthwhile and we have got a lot of support for the project. We are going to trial it with university students first and then we can tweak it before it goes out for general release. “It’s a great project and I can see it really making a huge impact for the launch. We are expecting a few million downloads and its going to be free.” The “app”, for iPhone and Android devices, was developed to keep pace with the busy lives of travellers, and has been developed in the year of the tenth anniversary of Caroline’s death. It will offer specific travel and safety information for destinations around the globe, giving travel safety tips, information about the country or city, highlights and attractions, useful and emergency phone numbers, helpful website links that travellers might need, local and annual events in the area, places to go and ones to avoid, seasons to travel, interactive maps, population details, ethnic groups and languages spoken, local news, details of the political situation and currency exchange rates. It will also have a GPS locator so the movements of travellers can be tracked in case of emergencies. The foundation has employedstudent Holly Thackeray, 23, to help research the information as part of an internship set up by York St John employer liaison Suzanne Dickinson. GotFocus director Andrew Litherland said: “If someone’s going to be travelling for sixth months a lot can happen in that time. There could be a political situation that arises in the country they are visiting or somewhere they are due to visit so the information on the “app” will be in real time and that way it will be meaningful to travellers.”

Jobs Risk Due To Government Delay On Green Energy

Britain risks losing jobs if ministers back down on promises to fight climate change, renewable energy and nuclear companies have warned. Under current law the UK is committed to cutting carbon emissions by 80 per cent by 2050. As part of the drive to achieve this goal, Government advisers have recommended the forthcoming Energy Bill includes a plan to decarbonise the energy sector by 2030. However George Osborne, the Chancellor, is said to have cold feet about the latter target because it will be expensive to build low carbon alternatives, such as wind farms or nuclear power stations. As tension grows within the Coalition, trade bodies for low carbon energies have written to Ed Davey, the Climate Change Secretary, urging him to stick to his guns. Renewable UK, the Carbon Capture & Storage Association and the Nuclear Industry Association argue that the target will drive investment in the growing low carbon energy sector, creating jobs. "The power sector will need to be largely decarbonised by 2030 if the UK is to meet its long term emissions targets. If a reference were included in the Energy Bill to this objective, this would not only reassure potential investors by lowering the perceived political risks, but could also reduce the cost of capital for decarbonising the power sector," they wrote. “Any significant slippage could result in investment being postponed, with major implications for associated new industrial development and jobs in a hi-tech, high-growth sector." The ‘Quad’, made up of David Cameron, Nick Clegg, the Deputy Prime Minister, George Osborne and Danny Alexander, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, are expected to discuss the Energy Bill this week. Mr Clegg and Mr Cameron, who pledged to be "the greenest Government ever" are not only under pressure from Mr Davey but senior Tories who believe green industry deserves a boost. However the recent appointment of John Hayes in the Energy department and Owen Paterson, in the Environment department, who have both voiced their scepticism about wind farms, has made the low energy sector nervous about the Government’s support for renewable energy. Already the leading manufacturers of offshore turbines have complained that orders for turbines in the UK have dried up as developers are nervous of the future. Only Siemen has had an order so far this year, but Vestas and Repower Systems have not had an order for turbines in the UK since October 2011, according to the Financial Times. Nuclear energy and carbon capture and storage need a strong signal from Government to persuade banks to invest in the expensive technologies. Resume Services

Resume Services Getting a job in the times we live in can be really difficult. I spoke to a recruiter only this week and she told me that she was now getting ten times as many applicants for every job role she had advertised (she works in the social housing sector) and that she could hardly manage with the volume. A resume services business can and definitely does give you a competitive advantage; however there are so many out there, how do you choose one? The purpose of the resume is simply to get you interviewed- a resume services business needs to create a resume for you that will get you interviewed. Do I need to Pay for Resume Services? There is an old adage that free advice isn’t worth what you pay for it. In life generally, you really do get what you pay for. Resume services are certainly no different and there are a wdie range from which you can choose. The first type will make over your resume cheaply, basically a glorified word processing service and they will, in all honesty do a good job of tidying up and formatting information that you will have provided for them. there is little or no editorial involvement, very little communication with you; however they will get your resume into shape. Professional Resume services will cost you money. The amount varies enormously as the business model they employ dictates their pricing to a large extent. some of the larger resume services businesses employ the affiliate model (as do we); however pay 25% and over to the affiliate and borrow credibility from websites like Reed, The Telegraph and others by advertising that they are the preferred partner of these trusted publications. In the majority of cases, the customer never finds out that the recommendation comes with a 25% cut for the privilige. Of course, their pricing reflects the fact that they are paying a quarter of the customer value straight back to an affiliate. there is nothing wrong with this; however it might explain the pricing model. this type of business then contracts out the writing of the resume to a poorly paid, self employed consultant who will get between £25 and £40 for writing the CV. The middle man in this process is the salesperson that reviews the CV using pre-formatted paragraphs of text letting you know what is wrong with your CV- their job is heavily commission based and they need to get you to buy to supplement their own personal income. Professional resume services businesses (small to medium sized) These businesses are the ones that will give you the very best value and also the best service. The businesses are often owner managed, the owner taking personal responsibility and accountability for the resume services that are delivered in their name. they rely on repeat business, having to succeed for their clients in order to succeed as businesses themselves. Whether or not you choose to use us for your resume writing, our advice is to find one of these type of resume services business and speak personally with the owner. You will be pleasantly surprised to find that the service that you receive is exceptional, personal service of a type that many had thought had been long gone.

Curriculum Vitae Writing Service What Is A Curriculum Vitae Writing Service?

The first element to perhaps consider is exactly what a Curriculum Vitae Writing Service actually is. A Curriculum Vitae Writing Service is a paid, professional service designed for those people who may wish to have their Curriculum Vitae written for them for a variety of reasons. One of the questions that I was asked was where do our customers come from around the world and why do they use a Curriculum Vitae Writing service. It’s really interesting when someone external to your day to day operations asks you such a pointed yet important question so I took my time and found out exactly where people did come from and why they used our services. My answer is detailed below and I hope you find it interesting: My question; From your professional experience, where are the ten most popular countries from where you receive orders for your cv service? Not an easy answer Almost all are looking to work in this country; however people originate from in rough order: India/ Pakistan, Middle East (Mainly Dubai, UAE, Qatar and Jordan), Eastern Europe (Romania, Poland, Ukraine, Russia), North Africa (Egypt, Morocco). Many are students (who have mum/ dad paying). They are mostly already in this country (eligible to work here) so traffic comes from the UK mainly The thing people all have in common is that English is their second language, and more importantly know they need a competitive advantage (Brits tend to have their CV written by a friend/ someone in HR, etc.) and are less used to buying their way to success The important thing from my perspective is that there is a perception that I have seen from people who aren’t native to the UK that they need a competitive advantage and they are in many cases prepared to pay for that. We have many more enquiries from people from the UK but a larger proportion of people from outside the UK actually end up buying from us. You can make your own mind about the reason for this; however here are some thoughts of mine for you to ponder on. It is far too easy for people in the UK as the state provides a safety net that supports people if they don’t succeed- indeed much of the reason why we are in a fiscal mes is that we have spent too much money in the public sector. Often, we find that people use us for free information and then get a friend or family member to write their CV for them and this is a big mistake. When you get something done for mate’s rates or for free, then people don’t appreciate it as much as if they are paying for it and don’t put in as much effort themselves as they ought to do. Another problem that comes from this is that the friend or family member actually does a poor job and the recipient of the work feels guilty and won’t make the necessary changes to the CV even if they knew what was wrong with the writing in the first place. Why Use a Curriculum Vitae Writing Service? Curriculum Vitae writing services vary in their ability to deliver results for their customers. The acid test as to whether a curriculum vitae writing service is any good or not is to ask to speak to their past customers. In today’s world of reviews being plastered all over the internet, you shouldn’t have to look hard to find a service that suits your own personal needs and has good reviews from people who have actulayy pid a curriculum vitae writing service to wite their Cv professionally for them. In the UK, we seem to have a sense of fair play and I believe that we don’t feel comfortable with what we may see as cheating by having someone writing a CV for them. The truth is though that we don’t actually cheat- what we do is represent people’s experiences, skills, qualifications and achievements in the best possible way and that is definitely not cheating.

Flextronics to get credit insurance for ECI deal

Flextronics International Ltd. (Nasdaq: FLEX), which produces electronic components at its Ofakim plant in southern Israel, is set to receive credit insurance to insure its $85 million contract with communications equipment maker ECI Telecom Ltd. The Ofakim plant has 600 employees. In the past few weeks, Flextronics Israel has warned that it would stop production at Ofakim and fire the plant’s employees, after the company could not obtain $50 million guarantees or credit insurance for the ECI contract. In view of these problems, the company asked government-owned Ashra Israel Export Insurance Corp. Ltd. to insure the contract, but the Ministry of Finance rejected the request because it of its high risk. Efforts by Flextronics Israel’s management to save the ECI deal have continued for weeks, and it harnessed top officials at the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor, and at other ministries to find a solution to prevent the crisis from escalating. Sources informed ”Globes” today that, a few days ago, a top government official arranged agreements in principle, which were a breakthrough toward a solution. “A creative solution is being prepared, in which many parties are participating, including the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Labor, ASHRA, and both ECI and Flextronics. The pending agreement could be signed soon, and will allow Flextronics to obtain the guarantees it needs, and prevent a severe jobs crisis in Ofakim,” a party in the effort to solve the crisis told “Globes”. He added that the solution would minimize the government’s exposure in the extreme case that the insurance policy is activated.

Writing a CV Suitable For a Change in Career

Change happens. The days of a job for life (was that ever really true?) are long gone as the information age has rendered traditional job roles redundant and new industries are developing at a pace never before seen in human existence. Many of us will end up in several different careers throughout our lives and often we seem to end up in a job role not fully understanding exactly how we arrived in that position. Some changes in career can be planned for. For example, if you are enjoying a career in the military on a fixed contract, you know when you are likely to complete that contract and should be preparing for the day when you need to move into a different career or have a different emphasis to the career path you choose to follow. This change of career can be one of the trickiest set of circumstances around which a CV needs to be written. After all, an employer will in all probability take a cursory (20-30 second) glance at your CV before deciding whether or not to put the CV into the yes, maybe or rejection pile. The career profile or objective will in this case be the single most important area of the CV to focus on as it needs to explain to the reader quickly and persuasively what the career objective of the candidate really is. Realise first that the vast majority of right minded people (would you want to work for anyone else?) will fully understand that people need, want or are forced to change career direction in much the same way as people get divorced, move countries or take some time out of their career to travel or enjoy other cultures. Write your profile in the same way in which you would introduce yourself to the ideal employer if you knew that you could only speak for a couple of minutes. The Americans call this an elevator speech. This is something that you need to rehearse in readiness for when you need to use it. The key element is that whatever your personal circumstances are; the profile needs to be believable. The listener (or reader) needs to be convinced that the story you are telling is genuine- if they believe you, the chances are that they will actually give you an opportunity. If they don’t believe you, your chances are dead in the water quicker than you will ever realise. A change in career direction can be positive. Neil Armstrong, the very first man to walk on the moon had many different careers within his incredibly successful and inspirational life. Starting working life in the US Navy, he became a pilot, seeing active service in Korea, returned home to College, graduated, became a test pilot, an astronaut, walked on the moon, became a teacher, business ambassador and also a voice over artist. Can you imagine what his CV must have looked like? Let people know what you can do for them, what type of job role you are looking for, where you want to work and provide some information to the reader regarding your motivation and perhaps the reasons behind this career change. The next element of high importance when changing careers is that of transferable skills. Skills and expertise gained in past roles can be enormously beneficial to a new job role as long as the reader can see how and where you can potentially employ those skills in a new job role. I have lost count of the times when I have seen CVs listing skills that people claim to possess written down on their CV. The question that employers are asking themselves is: ”How can those skills be used in the role that I am looking to fill”. Don’t make a potential employer have to think that through themselves- let them know exactly what you can do and most importantly how that will benefit the company or organisation that you are looking to work for. Explain succinctly that you have a successful track record of business development for example, quantify the sales record and margin growth that you have achieved for employers in the past and show that you have the motivation to do that and more in a new role. Changing careers can be tricky- putting yourself firmly in the shoes of your potential employer before writing that CV will make an enormous difference to the success or otherwise of your CV and job application.

Avoid Unregulated Taxis Or Mini-Cabs

Avoiding trouble with taxi's in the UK Touts pose as taxi or mini-cab drivers and are commonly found outside clubs or in town centres offering 'minicabs' to people looking for a taxi home. They may also stop their car as you are walking around at night, to offer you a 'minicab' home. The service they offer is illegal and sometimes dangerous. Touts are not vetted and often over-charge you for your ride home. Many have previous criminal convictions or are illegal immigrants with no legal right to work in the UK. Their cars may be unroadworthy and may not be properly insured. There has been a disturbing trend of muggings and rapes related to illegal cabs, so don't take any chances - NEVER accept a ride home with a tout. It can sometimes be difficult to distinguish a legal minicab from an illegal one. Here are some pointers to distinguish them: A real minicab driver will display an ID badge, and will have company cards and receipts to offer passengers. He will not mind you calling his company to verify his identity or the details of his car-type and registration. A real minicab will usually have a radio and possibly a meter to calculate fares. The car will often have a long stick-on aerial for the radio which will be magnetically attached to the bodywork of the car.

Useful Gap Year Safety Advice From The US Government

When you travel abroad, the odds are you will have a safe and incident-free trip. Travelers can, however, become victims of crime and violence, or experience unexpected difficulties. No one is better able to tell you this than the U.S. consular officers who work in more than 250 U.S. embassies and consulates around the globe. Every day of the year, U.S. embassies and consulates receive calls from American citizens in distress. Happily, most problems can be solved over the phone or with a visit to the Consular Section of the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. There are other occasions, however, when U.S. consular officers are called upon to help U.S. citizens who are in foreign hospitals or prisons, or to assist the families of U.S. citizens who have passed away overseas. We have prepared the following travel tips to help you avoid serious difficulties during your time abroad. We wish you a safe and wonderful journey! Before You Go What to Take Safety begins when you pack. To help avoid becoming a target, do not dress in a way that could mark you as an affluent tourist. Expensive-looking jewelry, for instance, can draw the wrong attention. Always try to travel light. You can move more quickly and will be more likely to have a free hand. You will also be less tired and less likely to set your luggage down, leaving it unattended. Carry the minimum number of valuables, and plan places to conceal them. Your passport, cash and credit cards are most secure when locked in a hotel safe. When you have to carry them on your person, you may wish to put them each in a different place rather than all in one wallet or pouch. Avoid handbags, fanny packs and outside pockets that are easy targets for thieves. Inside pockets and a sturdy shoulder bag with the strap worn across your chest are somewhat safer. One of the safest places to carry valuables is in a pouch or money belt worn under your clothing. If you wear glasses, pack an extra pair. Pack them and any medicines you need in your carry-on luggage. To avoid problems when passing through customs, keep medicines in their original, labeled containers. Bring copies of your prescriptions and the generic names for the drugs. If a medication is unusual or contains narcotics, carry a letter from your doctor attesting to your need to take the drug. If you have any doubt about the legality of carrying a certain drug into a country, consult the embassy or consulate of that country before you travel. Bring travelers’ checks and one or two major credit cards instead of cash. Pack an extra set of passport photos along with a photocopy of your passport’s information page to make replacement of your passport easier in the event it is lost or stolen. Put your name, address and telephone numbers inside and outside of each piece of luggage. Use covered luggage tags to avoid casual observation of your identity or nationality. If possible, lock your luggage. What to Leave Behind Don't bring anything you would hate to lose. Leave at home: Valuable or expensive-looking jewelry Irreplaceable family objects All unnecessary credit cards Your Social Security card, library card, and similar items you may routinely carry in your wallet. Leave a copy of your itinerary with family or friends at home in case they need to contact you in an emergency. Make two photocopies of your passport identification page, airline tickets, driver's license and the credit cards that you plan to bring with you. Leave one photocopy of this data with family or friends at home; pack the other in a place separate from where you carry the originals. Leave a copy of the serial numbers of your travelers' checks with a friend or relative at home. Carry your copy with you in a separate place and, as you cash the checks, cross them off the list.

Vintage Gucci Wardrobe Revealed

Gucci is one of the most prestigious luxury brands in the world, and although now owned by French brand giant PPR it seems Guccio’s great granddaughter, Victoria Gucci-Losio is still very much flying the flag for her family’s fomer brand – albeit it in a very unique way. Victoria, now a successful stylist and blogger, has decided to make use of her family’s enormous collection of vintage Gucci pieces, and is loaning it to stylists for magazine editorial shoots – and although her archived pieces aren't available to purchase it already is making waves in mag-land, with an Opening Ceremony shoot already under her belt. We reckon this girl’s got serious fashion entrepreneurial potential! With nothing for sale, and the collection being used purely so as not to waste it in her mother’s walk-in, it seems fashion stories are becoming the new museums! Grazia spoke exclusively to Victoria this week about her new enterprise…"I have been working in fashion for various publications doing freelance styling jobs over the last  two years. I was helping my mother clear out her wardrobes when I realised there was a whole walk in closet full of amazing vintage Gucci pieces. I thought - this should not be hanging in a closet! So I created the website in order to showcase the collection by using it for fashion shoots”. More info here
