Crystal Knapp uses SmarterBucks to earn cash that goes directly to her student loan payments. She also racks up extra bucks by filling out surveys and writing blog posts about her experience, and so far has earned about $800 in over a year. “I wasn’t expecting to get rich off of it, but definitely a bit of help helped, and it only takes a little bit of my time,” said the 31-year-old Knapp, who works at a bank as a finance specialist. The SmarterBucks program is but one of several new efforts by technology firms to use apps, games and other online financial tools to help motivate consumers to improve their finances, save money and pay down debt.

Loyalty Programs: Knowing what reward is most desirable to a customer is not intuitive. Smart data analytics help get the offers closer to the mark. Rewards that are relevant and come with a high perceived value score well.

That being said, there is a lot of room for testing and creativity as “The 2011 Colloquy Loyalty Census counted more than two billion loyalty memberships in the United States, or 18 programs per household. That's double the numbers that were on the books in 2000.”

It is an opposing of view to the customer loyalty programs in airline. Author believe that people are loyal to brands, not loyalty programs. However, I agree that the 'real' customer loyalty is base on the good service, which is the most important part in the CRM.
