An Evidence-Based Selected-Response (EBSR)

An Evidence-Based Selected-Response (EBSR) | curriculum and the 21st century | Scoop.it

What is an EBSR?

An Evidence-Based Selected-Response (EBSR) is one of the three “item” types by which PARCC will measure student’s proficiency with achieving grade level reading standards. The other two item types are the Technology-Enhanced Constructed-Response (TECR), and the Prose Constructed Response  (PCR), which simply put is an essay. More on those later. Let’s keep our focus here on the EBSR.

Essentially, an EBSR is like a conventional multiple choice question. What makes the EBSRdifferent from the conventional multiple choice is the nature of  the  ”item.”

“I thought I was a really good math teacher. But now…I feel like I’m really teaching."

"Mastery is key, as well. Sanders said the old state standards required her to cover so much material that she would have to move on to the next item, regardless of whether some students did not fully understand a concept.

Now she regularly checks to see how well kids are doing instead of waiting for tests at the end of a unit, which would grade them but not give much opportunity to shore up weak spots before moving on.

“I don’t think that we expected that all of them could do it,” Sanders said. Now, I’m not moving on until they all master it in some way or they show some growth.”

Using the Kindle Fire in Education – A Solid iPad Alternative

Using the Kindle Fire in Education – A Solid iPad Alternative | curriculum and the 21st century | Scoop.it

"Amazon’s Kindle Fire took off like a rocket when it was introduced, and it is the first tablet that has offered significant competition to the iPad. Kindle Fire is a mini tablet computer and was released late last year with full support from the extensive library that Amazon possesses. With an extensive collection of books, movies, photos, games and apps in their own library, Amazon seems to have found just the right answer for the iPad, given the fact that Kindle Fire costs roughly half of what the iPad costs (depending on configuration)."
