No Global Warming 'Pause,' Planet Warming Much Faster Than Previously Thought: Report - weather.com

No Global Warming 'Pause,' Planet Warming Much Faster Than Previously Thought: Report - weather.com | Severe Weather & Climate Changes | Scoop.it
Contrary to recent reports, the planet hasn't experienced a slowdown in global warming since 1998 after all. In fact, warming has gotten faster during that time, a new study shows.
Valerie Haag's insight:

So now we're in that phase of "Is this global warming?" After Al Gore made his announcement back in 2000 about global warming, he took the nation and world by storm. Shortly after 2004, people began to disbelieve him. Now here we are in 2013 almost 2014, nearly a decade since Al Gore was slammed the liar title, and scientists are telling us that global warming is happening.

Atlantic hurricane season quietest in 45 years, experts say

Valerie Haag's insight:

This is odd, especially for the Atlantic basin. If this news was about the Pacific basin, it wouldn't be strange at all. The Pacific isn't made to be spitting out storms like Hurricane Katrina...until of course Typhoon Haiyan.

At Least 6 Dead in Illinois After Tornadoes, Storms Damage Homes | Severe Weather & Climate Changes | Scoop.it
One of the Reported Tornadoes Was Estimated to Have Winds Up to 200 MPH
Valerie Haag's insight:

It is unusual for a low pressure system to plow through the midwest while creating severe storms...severe enough to create tornadoes. At this time of the year, if the storm produced blizzard-like conditions, this would've been a nor'easter.

Valerie Haag's insight:

Philippine typhoon death toll could reach 10,000

Valerie Haag's insight:

Super-Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda according to Asian Weather Service) slammed into the Phillippines late Thursday night (US time). Super-Typhoon Haiyan took a direct hit to the islands bringing 200+ winds. Without any dry air, the typhoon is unable to weaken before slamming into the Asian coast sometime this Sunday.

With our human race population growing faster every minute, stronger storms results in higher death tolls.

Could this be a warning to future storms?

China blames weather for hampering efforts to banish smog

Valerie Haag's insight:

So the weather causes the smog to stay close to ground level (hence the 50 times the amount of unhealthy air) AND the weather causes China to halt the procedure to eliminate the smog. Ironic don't you think?
