The idea was put forward that having apps that would focus on, or be used for specific areas of the Assessment Foci would be very useful – so here we are."

How Managers Create High-Performance Cultures

How Managers Create High-Performance Cultures | culture and engagement | Scoop.it

Companies throughout the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region are struggling to grow in a highly unstable economic climate. Over the past five years, many have undertaken aggressive acquisition and expansion plans. They are placing a keen focus on whether they are capable of creating the kind of high-performing and engaging cultures primed for driving continuous growth.

A good number of these businesses are launching initiatives aimed at selecting, retaining, and engaging managers -- and ultimately, engaging the employees in those managers' workgroups. That's because increasing engagement can help companies improve performance across a host of key business outcomes, from reducing absenteeism and turnover to increasing productivity and profitability. Managers play a crucial role in creating these improvements, regardless of a company's industry or geographic location. Here, the manager's role becomes even more central to creating high-performance cultures as companies increase in size, market share, and global presence.

To investigate the state of manager effectiveness in the GCC region, Gallup studied 3,477 managers from companies in the oil and gas, banking and finance, property development, tourism, automotive, and telecommunications sectors. For the purpose of this study, a GCC manager was defined as a person responsible for directing at least one subordinate. The results show that the best managers in the GCC region create a high-performing culture by setting clear expectations, distinctly defining employees' roles, creating a trusting environment, and encouraging employees' growth and development.

4 ways social media impacts emotional branding | Mark Schaefer

4 ways social media impacts emotional branding | Mark Schaefer | culture and engagement | Scoop.it

...Here are a few of the marketing philosophies I uphold, which will explain the rest of this post on social media and emotional branding:

1  We build relationships with brands like we build relationships with our friends. It takes many positive interactions over a period of time.

2. Loyalty trumps everything. If the world turns upside-down, your loyal customers will be there. So our ultimate goal is to create loyalty.

3. It is impossible to achieve true brand loyalty in the long-term without emotional connection.

4. Emotional connection comes when we feel a brand becomes part of our self-identity.

So let’s start a little examination of how social media can fit into this formula....

10 Things That Learners Pay Attention To (And How to Use Them in eLearning) | culture and engagement | Scoop.it

Even more than other types of education, eLearning must struggle to attract learners' attention: the Internet is full of distractions, and adult learning...

Focus ALSO on:

5. Emotions.

Emotionally-charged stimuli capture people’s attention immediately. On top of that, the brain remembers an emotional experience better than anything else. In eLearning, you can make this work for you by encouraging emotional response. Many of these tools, such as compelling stories, videos, images, and visually engaging screens can evoke emotion; try to connect emotionally with learners, and they will learn more and better.

.

Create shocking, impressive or surprising moments that grabs your learner’s attention right away.

Educational Leadership:Assessment to Promote Learning:Seven Practices for Effective Learning

Educational Leadership:Assessment to Promote Learning:Seven Practices for Effective Learning | culture and engagement | Scoop.it

Teachers in all content areas can use these seven assessment and grading practices to enhance learning and teaching.

Classroom assessment and grading practices have the potential not only to measure and report learning but also to promote it. Indeed, recent research has documented the benefits of regular use of diagnostic and formative assessments as feedback for learning (Black, Harrison, Lee, Marshall, & Wiliam, 2004).

Like successful athletic coaches, the best teachers recognize the importance of ongoing assessments and continual adjustments on the part of both teacher and student as the means to achieve maximum performance.

Unlike the external standardized tests that feature so prominently on the school landscape these days, well-designed classroom assessment and grading practices can provide the kind of specific, personalized, and timely information needed to guide both learning and teaching.

Daniel Watson's curator insight, December 2, 2013 6:45 PM

Business owners wanting to retain their trained and established employees, need to be aware that recent surveys show that a very high percentage of employees are currently looking to change employers, and should consider taking steps to create greater employee engagement within their businesses.

The costs associated with recruiting, onboarding, training and supervising new employees, is much higher than most business owners generally realise, therefore any action taken to assist in retaining existing employees is time and money well spent.

This excellent article, explains the dire situation which has evolved in the general workforce which has serious potential to disrupt businesses dependent on retaining good employees, and it offers a range of quality resources that business owners can access to learn more about employee engagement and how to improve it in any business.

harish magan's curator insight, December 13, 2013 10:19 PM

he customer is every business owners reason for being, yet many business owners do not place customer service at the top of their list of priorities, leading to the development of business cultures that are not customer centric.

Given the level of competition today, and the ease at which customers can move their loyalties, it is vital for business success to ensure customer service is the best it can be at all times.

This excellent article, suggests that putting the effort into customer service is one of the things that will give a business real advantage over other businesses and also help business growth, and it offers four ways to ensure that customer service can be built into the bedrock of your business operations.
