Post-Castro Cuba needs a democracy, not a theocracy

Last month, USA Today published an essay by Mark Pinsky under the headline, "Could Catholic leader usher in a new Cuba?" The opinion column proposed that the best possible successor to the Castro brothers is Cardinal Jaime Ortega y Alamino.

 

Such speculation, which has been sporadically offered in the past, is not only grossly disconnected from reality, but also condescending and offensive.

Spanish ex-journalist sentenced to 7 years in prison in Cuba for child prostitution

He traveled to Cuba as the general manager of a Spanish hotel chain but previously spent time on the island between 2007 and 2008 when he filmed a hidden camera report on child prostitution in Cuba. The report aired on a private Spanish television station, added EFE. Cuban authorities responded negatively to the report, "Cuba, Child Prostitution."
