Crowdfunding Portal Kickstarter Dragged into Patent Lawsuit: Why?

Crowdfunding Portal Kickstarter Dragged into Patent Lawsuit: Why? | Crowdfunding in Europe | Scoop.it
Following major PR about one of Kickstarters’ most successful fundraising successes involving Formlabs, a rival 3D printing company 3D Systems has launched a law suit for patent infringement not only against Formlabs, but against Kickstarter as well.

3D Systems claims Kickstarter acted as ‘sales agent’ – however, common opinion is that 3D Systems, whose patent expires in January 2014, only pursued Formlabs (not yet selling any product as yet in USA anyway) in an attempt to curtail their production of a far more affordable 3D printer and use up the successful fundraising in legal fees.

The gogogactor & How to Get Featured on Our Homepage

The gogogactor & How to Get Featured on Our Homepage | Crowdfunding in Europe | Scoop.it
We’re often asked by campaigners, ‘How can I get ‘Featured on the Homepage?’  Everyone has the chance to find real estate on the main page of our platform as well as kudos through our social media channels and this is all determined by YOU!

‘But wait, I’ve done all that!’ you say? That means you’re rocking the internal drivers that you the campaign owner controls (frequency of updates, number of videos, the number of team members as part of your campaign) but this leaves the other 50% of factors up to the external activities (pageviews, number of funders, % of goal completed). And remember, your position in the gogofactor chain is relative to how other campaigns are driving their activity. So don’t fret, keep focused on your daily campaign activities and we’re confident you’ll rise fast!

Guest post by Erik Peterson (@hifidelics) of Hifidelics from Flexi of the Month. A lot of you have been curious as to why we were unable to reach our funding goal in order to begin our flexi-disc singles club. Admittedly, I wasn’t 100% sure either, but after some research and 20/20 hindsight I believe I have found the culprits. Actually it was I who was the culprit, but looking back I can see the mistakes that were made. In sharing this with you my hopes that you can use this information for your own campaign.

La foule de projets du crowdfunding

La foule de projets du crowdfunding | Crowdfunding in Europe | Scoop.it

Mais aujourd'hui avec les réseaux sociaux, on peut créer une communauté de soutien autour d'une idée innovante. »

Is Kickstarter selling dreams?

Is Kickstarter selling dreams? | Crowdfunding in Europe | Scoop.it

I think the new idea of this excellent article is that project crowdfunding as its done on Kickstarter or Ulule is (among other things): "a new form of online commerce, where merchants who are close to you on the social graph, rather than in terms of physical geography, can thereby charge a premium for products which would never fly in the open market".

And it is clear that "When you fund something like OUYA, you’re not pre-ordering a new console that will be made and marketed, you’re buying a ticket on the ride, reserving a front-row seat to the process and endorsing an idea. It’s a Like button attached to your wallet."

Crowdwatch: Crowdfunding’s Tipping Point | Business 2 Community

Crowdwatch: Crowdfunding’s Tipping Point | Business 2 Community | Crowdfunding in Europe | Scoop.it

Last year crowdfunding raised $1.2 billion, according to crowdsourcing.org. That number is expected to double in 2012. Forty-nine percent of those funds were donated to non-profits; eleven percent went to projects where there was profit-sharing or equity involved. Half the funds, curiously, were raised in North America last year. It should be noted, however, that equity-based funding is growing fastest in Europe. Further, Indiegogo has found that nearly 40% of active campaigns now receive money from multiple countries. Crowdfunding, in short, is going international.

While discussing our new crowdfunding platform and the Facebook IPO fiasco over dinner last night, John Mackey, the Founder and CEO of Whole Foods Market said unequivocally: “I wish crowdfunding had been around when I started Whole Foods.” While he did eventually list several positive relationships with VCs and institutional investors including T. Rowe Price, John’s sentiment is common among founders after taking the well-trod but treacherous VC track.
