A Must Have Chart Featuring Critical Thinking Skills | Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

A Must Have Chart Featuring Critical Thinking Skills | Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Critical thinking and Creativity in class | Scoop.it

Critical thinking is an essential skill in our life.It is through thinking critically that we get to sideline our biases(cultural, racial,ethnic...etc) and see the clear picture.Critical thinking is a sort of meta-thinking, that is thinking about thinking.

It is a key to self-reliance : memorize the solution to a particular problem and you may master the solution to that particular problem, but improve your critical thinking and you ll get yourself the tools to create your own effective solutions to a multitude of unfamiliar problems.

Another question that has one looking at Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, this time with the primary question geared to students: Why do students try in school?

Below are the five areas and what may be motivating the student.

* Survival - "I am in danger here or at home. I'm motivated by fear (intrinsic)."

* Self-care - "I'm motivated to stay afloat and avoid more work (extrinsic).

* Belonging - "I'm motivated by friends, family, and parents (extrinsic).

* Esteem - "I'm motivated because it makes me feel good about myself (both).

* Self-actualization - "I'm motivated in school because its important work (intrinsic)."

In each of the five areas you will find four to six statements that provide more depth to the statement.

tuXccoaching's curator insight, January 14, 2014 8:23 AM

We live in age with many distractions. What happens to students when they are constantly being interrupted by one digital device or another? What impact might this have on their ability to cultivate "skills of attention...if students don’t learn how to concentrate and shut out distractions, research shows they’ll have a much harder time succeeding in almost every area."

What should we do to help students learn to focus? Should learning to focus become a part of the curriculum? Learn more about this topic by clicking through to the post.
