TDX Group, a leading provider of data and technology products, today announced a recruitment drive for 10 analyst roles in its Nottingham head office. The new roles will support a number of TDX business lines, including leading data exchange HeliX, the Debt Management platform PLATO and online payments website Payments Place.

Cobbetts debt recovery arm sold as last part of failed firm finds new home | Credit Collection Insight | Scoop.it

Midlands debt recovery firm HL Legal Solicitors has sealed a deal to take on Cobbetts' debt collection arm Incasso after reaching an agreement with the firm's administrators KPMG.


The Leeds-based Incasso business, which has 52 staff and operates as a separate limited liability partnership, went into administration along with Cobbetts last week ahead of DWF's pre-pack acquisition of the bulk of the firm.

Debt collector horror stories abound: There are threats to dig up the dead relatives of those who couldn't pay their funeral bills, promises to imprison debtors or take their children into custody -- even warnings that pets will be killed.


Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, collectors are prohibited from threatening violence, using profane language, calling incessantly, inflating a debt and implying they are attorneys. And they can't tell consumers they will arrest them or garnish their wages or property unless they actually plan to take that action and are legally able to do so through a court order. Many states have their own rules governing debt collector practices as well.

Four payday lenders reported to OFT for deceitful business practices

Citizens Advice is today calling on the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) to use its new powers to immediately suspend the licences of four payday lenders to stop the firms operating.

 

A dossier of evidence from across the Citizens Advice service has been provided to the OFT revealing the firms to be acting unfairly, exacerbating debt problems and causing significant distress.

Dublin City University (DCU) has hired debt collectors to track down students who have not paid their full student contribution fees.

 

It follows decisions by UCD and the University of Limerick to use similar methods. DCU did not clarify if debt collectors are targeting currently enrolled students or former students or both.
