Cost of Living Calculator: Compare the Cost of Living in Two Cities

Cost of Living Calculator: Compare the Cost of Living in Two Cities | Cost Of Living | Scoop.it
Compare the cost of living in two cities using the CNNMoney Cost of Living calculator. Determine if you could maintain your current standard of living in a different city.
COL Macro's insight:

Another entertaining gadge that can be used when dealing with cost of living, is CNN's Cost of Living Calculator. Although this tool may not do or show as much information as the Salary generorator, in my opinion it is just as incitful and fun! Growing up in NY almost my entire life, I never took into consideration how costly it is to actually live there, because for one, I was young and naive, and two, I had never lived anywhere else and compared the cost of living. Obviously as i grew older, I began to understand more about how the cost to live in New York verse say, Nevada, is so different. Using this Cost of Living Calculator, anyone can punch in what state they currently reside in, where they want to compare it with or potentially live in the future, and how much their current salary is. After entering the following information, the calulator will generate a comparable salary for the new location you are interested in, as well as a few examples of price differences in things such as food, housing, utilities and more.  If you ever want to see a real shocker, take a moment and compare your current location to one in say, Hawaii, the results are shocking! Enjoy!

Cost-Of-Living: Manhattan vs. The Least Expensive City In The US, Harlingen, TX

Cost-Of-Living: Manhattan vs. The Least Expensive City In The US, Harlingen, TX | Cost Of Living | Scoop.it
The South Texas city of Harlingen is the cheapest place in the U.S. to live, according to the sixth annual cost of living index, a study conducted by

Via Don Dea
COL Macro's insight:

A great example of how the cost of living compares from city to city, and state to state, is this diagram that compares Manhattan NY, one of the most expensive cities in the US, to the least expensive, Harlingen, TX. In this diagram, the comparison of home prices, clothes, utilities, basic essentials, and more are all shown. When reviewing this, one can see that specific things in Manhattan are extremely more expensive than things in Harlingen, such as the cost of ones home. Intrestingly enough though, while most of these items have drastic differences in prices, others do not as much. A result of this is the increase of demand for certain things in Manhattan, versus the demand for those items in Harlingen. For example, toothpaste. The price of toothpaste in Manhattan is a whopping $4, and only $1.94 in Harlingen due to the fact that there is a higher demand for toothpaste in a massive city such as Manhattan versus a smaller city like Harlingen, where the demand is not as high.
