News Article: Coral Reefs and the damages of high acidity | Coral Reefs | Scoop.it
A very young field of research is trying to measure the costs of oceans growing more acidic
Rodrigo Z.'s insight:

Purpose: This was published by Scientific American in order to inform the public about the damages that occur to coral reefs due to human pollution. Scientific American does not affiliate itself with any specific political agenda and publishes simply to assist and inform.

Relevance: This is extremely relevant as it is published for adults and for the purpose of informing. The scientific american is very helpful for the public and scientists alike due to the validity and punctiliousness of their research.

How we used this: We used this to expand upon human threats to coral reefs, we also learned about the acidity and PH of water near most coral reefs and how it is often unsafe/unhealthy.

Journal Article: Threats to coral reefs

Journal Article about threats to coral reefs

Rodrigo Z.'s insight:

Currency: The information in this journal article was published august 21,2014 and is extremely relevant as the information was published a mere 3 months prior.

Purpose: This information exists to inform people about the threats to coral reefs. These purposes are made clear and are probably facts because propaganda would not make sense as there would be no problem to fix, if the problem was fake. This person is clearly ecocentric and biocentric and wants the Earth and organisms to be healthy.

How we used this: This was chosen because it discusses the various natural and human threats to coral reefs, which is information necessary for filling out the biome chart.

Rodrigo Z.'s insight:

Currency- This is extremely current as it was published last month(Novermber, 2014).

Accuracy- This experiment is highly reliable as it has been conducted by a highly esteemed science thinktank. These people tested to see the function of coral reefs and how they occured.

Why is this important- This allowed us to further fill out the unique characteristics section of the chart as the coral reef has functions unique to its biome.

Rodrigo Z.'s insight:

C- This information was published in 2014 so it is quite relevant. In fact it was published a couple months ago.

Relevance- It is perfect for our topic because it details the animals and plant life, unique characteristics, locations and examples(especially of great barrier). These are things that we need to know for the biome chart.

Authority- National Geographic Society created this, and they are a very highly esteemed organization known for the quality and depth of their rhetoric.

What we used: We used this to fill up about half of the biome chart. It is very good information and is perfect for this project.
