#NeoLiberalism is Finished

#NeoLiberalism is Finished | Cooperative capitalism | Scoop.it
NeoLiberalism is finished.  Please note that I am not against commercial enterprises that innovate and take risks, they are great. No, I am against the Chicago School of Economics orthodoxy that blindly keeps telling everybody that EVERYTHING should be placed in unregulated Market Forces, where the 'invisible hand' will rule to let the best win.…

Cutting the Gordian Knot of Technological Unemployment with Unconditional Basic Income

Cutting the Gordian Knot of Technological Unemployment with Unconditional Basic Income | Cooperative capitalism | Scoop.it
The creation and use of ever more sophisticated tools that allow humankind to do increasingly more with increasingly less is extraordinary, but it has a catch. What is it, and how do we resolve it?
John Lasschuit ®™'s insight:

We really do need the Unconditional Basic Income for a sustainable and progressive future.

Ivon Prefontaine, PhD's curator insight, June 16, 2017 12:24 PM
With increasing automation in workplaces i.e. manufacturing and restaurants, basic income is part of a broader answer. Another part of the solution is to teach skills that prepare students for an uncertain future and are grounded in the present i.e. problem solving. This includes considering trans-disciplinary teaching.

One of the teachers I interviewed spoke about this at length. Teachers would teach side-by-side and that has its own benefits.

UN Report: Robots Will Replace Two-Thirds of All Workers in the Developing World

UN Report: Robots Will Replace Two-Thirds of All Workers in the Developing World | Cooperative capitalism | Scoop.it
Not only will 75 percent of jobs go to automation, but the developing world may even see swaths of companies leaving their shores since labor will be less of a factor for industry. Plans, such as a universal basic income, need to be initiated before this process proliferates and these regions are plunged into even more dire circumstances.
John Lasschuit ®™'s insight:

Again, there's an growing need for a univeral basic income, due to the rapid replacement of jobs by robots.

Robots Could Make Universal Basic Income a Necessity

Robots Could Make Universal Basic Income a Necessity | Cooperative capitalism | Scoop.it

Universal basic income isn’t a new idea. Variations of the concept — that all citizens, regardless of their career, should have a guaranteed wage — date back to the 16th century, but it’s never been successfully implemented. But the 21st century has something the 16th century didn’t have: robots. And as automated workers take more and more jobs from human beings, basic income might be the only way to keep the country’s economy afloat.

Het Rijnland Model anders bekeken

Het Rijnland Model anders bekeken | Cooperative capitalism | Scoop.it

What We Need to Truly Thrive: Democracy and Unconditional Basic Income

Contrary to popular belief, we never truly ended slavery. We didn’t fully abolish it as an institution. We simply went from one form of slavery (chattel slavery), to another form of slavery (wage slavery). Instead of forcing people to work for nothing, we instead let people work for money to live, without which they risk death for not obtaining.

John Lasschuit ®™'s insight:

Still not convinced an unconditonal basicincome is by far the best for all of us? Read this extended article and see if it can convince you.

What is capitalism being replaced with? There is some evidence that the rich are getting richer (individuals and collectives). Capitalism ended a long time ago. It was replaced with a neo-liberal economic and poltical agenda that has polarized many countries and economies.

Adam Smith was a moral philosopher who saw a role for compassion.

There are very few policy ideas that attract support from all sides of the political spectrum these days. Universal basic income is one of them.
