Social Media Professionals: The Modern Day Clark Kent?

Social Media Professionals: The Modern Day Clark Kent? | Content Marketing Tips | Scoop.it
For social media professionals, it is quite an undertaking to stay current on news and headlines that affect the role.  Think about it:
Social media is an Internet-based vehicle that exists in a 24/7/365 world and evolves as fast as people can type or speak their thoughts.
No matter what area of social media one might be involved in, they constantly need to be up on a wide range of news and trends.
Yes — On local, national, and world headlines so there is an awareness of what will be social.  But also on each relevant social network – for various demographics – And any tools or applications that connect with those platforms.
Not to mention the frequently rolled-out start-ups hoping to move the needle in the social space.

20 SEO Tools You Might Not Have Heard Of, But Should Be Using

20 SEO Tools You Might Not Have Heard Of, But Should Be Using | Content Marketing Tips | Scoop.it

I should be presenting at BrightonSEO today on a 20/20 slot (20 slides, 20 seconds each) talking about 20 SEO tools.

Unfortunately I can’t be there. Sadly my dad passed away on Wednesday morning having battled cancer so bravely for the last year, but unfortunately his health deteriorated very quickly earlier this week. Obviously it puts things in perspective, as these things always do, but I know my dad would have loved me to do this. He was so proud of my career and paid such a great interest in everything I do, especially speaking at events like this – mainly because this isn’t something I’m naturally comfortable at doing and I’d rather not be center of attention (I’m just like him in so many ways), but I am ambitious and want to push myself and company forward by forcing myself into creating and taking these opportunities.

So while I can’t be there today, I still wanted to share the slides with everyone who’s going along to the event.

The Death Of The Blog Farms

The Death Of The Blog Farms | Content Marketing Tips | Scoop.it

For the last few years, webmaster, internet marketers, and bloggers have been using paid blog networks and blog farms to boost their rankings in Google. Well last month, Google took an ax to the root of these blog networks like Build My Rank and Authority Link Network and de-indexed all or a majority of their sites. I saw this coming when Google announced a change in their algorithm concerning links and how they valued them. These blog farms had a high ratio of keyword optimized links pointing to other sites. Honestly, it was only a matter of time before these schemes to get better rankings were discovered and dealt with. Some of the major users of these blog networks even got emails in their webmaster tools accounts stating that unnatural link profiles had been discovered. This is not a good thing. So let me explain to you just a little about what is a blog farm, and what is a keyword optimized link and what is the future of building your website so it gets good rankings in Google without risking all your hard work on a loophole that might get you de-indexed.

4 Steps That Take Curation to the Next Level

4 Steps That Take Curation to the Next Level | Content Marketing Tips | Scoop.it

This post was written by Jonathan Crowe for business2community. I selected this two part series because they have great information, tools and resources.

Last week’s post laid out a case for content curation – I selected this today because it has great information and resources.

**But no matter how airtight that case may be, the fact is theory is one thing, practice another.

As Sales Benchmark Index CEO Greg Alexander points out, even if companies decide to adopt content marketing strategies, that doesn’t mean they’ll be successful.

It all comes down to the value of the content you’re offering your customers, and to that end my favorite tip Alexander offers to B2B companies is:

“Give away your how-to knowledge.”

Here are some takeaways:

Use Beth Kanter's   Curation Primer - Beth always gives away information, tools and resources along with very valuable insights

Robin Good has a lot of interesting things to say regarding the importance of your visual delivery of content curation, and what’s in store for the future

Define and conquer

**Define who your audience is, organize it so it's easy to navigate on your site

Have Your content come to you - Best Online free curation tools

Before You Post, what are you bringing to the table?

**The best content curators provide more than just links and copy-and-pasted they summarize. They add their own take.

**They frame content in such a way that calls out its relevancy to their audience.

**If they’re smart they cross-reference related content the reader can access, as well.

Get Active

**Once your curated content has gone live, then the real work begins — promoting it and engaging with your audience.

**Reaching out to them via social media and providing them with a comments section (that you actively respond to) is a must.

**After all, curating is all about connecting.

Instagram Cofounder: Here's How We Scaled Into A Billion Dollar Company [DECK] | Content Marketing Tips | Scoop.it

Instagram never would have sold to Facebook for $1 billion this week if its backend techhad not been able to scale to 35 million users in under two years. The main reason Facebook bought Instagram was that Facebook's photo-sharing experience on mobile was slow and painful in comparison.

Yesterday, at a tech talk at another startup (AirBnB), Instagram cofounder Mike Krieger gave a presentation about how his team managed that feat.

The presentation is loaded with tech jargon, but even for us non-tech types, it presents a fascinating narrative about the challenges behind going from nothing to something huge so fast.

Customer Engagement is a Multi-Channel Proposition [CONVO] | Social Media Today | Content Marketing Tips | Scoop.it

Social channels are grabbing a larger share of our interest and investment as customer engagement channels. And there's little argument about the value of social channels to help us gauge customer sentiment to inform our strategies and activities intended to enhance meaningful interaction with our brands.According to Banafsheh Ghassemi — and I suspect you will agree after listing to our conversation — relying too heavily on sentiment and other analyses from social media can create blind spots for marketers in our multi-channel world.
