Instagram aims to be a social media destination for news

Instagram aims to be a social media destination for news | Social Media and Content Marketing are the better SEO Tools | Scoop.it

Twitter has a reputation for being the social network where news and current events are at the forefront. After all, journalists make up the largest and most active verified group there.

With a pair of updates, Instagram’s developers seem to be looking to challenge that reputation and establish the Facebook-owned photo-sharing platform as a place to go for the news of the day. A blog post on the platform’s blog reads, in part:

With more than 70 million photos and videos posted to Instagram every day, wherever something is happening, chances are you can see it here. Whether it’s behind the scenes at the NBA Finals, on the runway with the latest fashion trend at a favorite club with a local band, people are capturing moments large and small on Instagram. But, until now, there’s never been an easy way to find these moments.

Instagram has overhauled its “Explore” tab to make it easier for users to find trending people, places, events and hashtags. The blog post states:

At the top of the Explore page you will find new curated collections that will be updated regularly, featuring interesting accounts and places, from musicians and extreme athletes to stunning architecture and gorgeous beaches....

Stop Guessing: Here’s a Social Media Strategy That Works | Social Media and Content Marketing are the better SEO Tools | Scoop.it
Everyone makes it sound so easy. Post a few times on Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn, and the traffic will pour in.

In reality, it’s not easy. And like with anything else, you need to spend some time learning how to do it properly.

I assure you it’s possible. My nutrition blog case study received over 9,000 visits from Facebook alone last month, despite being a new blog.

But as I noted in that second-month update, it could be doing even better. My friend Mike, who is running the site, is a really smart guy, but it’s still taking him some time to really understand how to use social media to its fullest potential.

You should care about social media traffic because it is one of the biggest referrers of traffic at your disposal. In early 2015, social media traffic made up 31% of overall traffic.

You can rise above the noise, cut through the clutter, and connect with your audience without having to take out a television ad during the Super Bowl, a billboard in Time Square, or conduct a multimillion-dollar marketing campaign.

You can build an audience of people “who will rely on your for information, advice, and help, and will seek out your expertise” with nothing more than a blog. Individuals, non-profit organizations, and even startup companies have developed highly engaged audiences who place them in a position to launch a career, further a cause, or establish a profitable company.

But, in order to do this, you have to first understand how today’s media-rich environment has forever changed the way we obtain information and make purchasing decisions....

(From the article): One third of consumers who contact brands on social media never get a response.

About 33% of consumers who have used social media for customer service say the channel does not meet expectations.

Despite the immediacy of social media, just 13% of consumers get a response within minutes.

The (not so) ugly: the opportunity for marketers

More than 40% of consumers expect resolution within one hour when using social media as a customer service channel.

Sixty-three percent of consumers say that they have to engage with a brand two or more times on social media before a customer service inquiry or issue is resolved.

Just 2% of consumers use social media for urgent customer service issues.

LinkedIn works via active participation.  However, as a job/employment site it has the potential to be harmful to majority of its users should many subjects or even the quality of articles covered were to be given candid, honest responses.

One concern often discussed in Networking groups is the harvesting of job seekers resumes by unrepeatable recruiters.  A second though unintended consequence is the opportunity for hiring managers or generalist to preemptively filter out qualified minority job candidates.  This mitigates the old "shameful" practice of discovering the race of a candidate at the interview and having to dismiss their candidacy under the guise of... you name the mired of old excuses...

Study Finds Brand Reputation More Important to Consumers than Price

Study Finds Brand Reputation More Important to Consumers than Price | Social Media and Content Marketing are the better SEO Tools | Scoop.it

Everyone knows price matters to consumers, but a new study suggests the lowest price doesn’t always win. Even more important to consumers is the reputation of retailers—and how prices correlate to that brand reputation.

Price Still Matters

This guideline comes from Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business, which does agree that price remains an important factor for businesses. But price is a relative figure that relates to the reputation of a business, and consumers typically gauge whether a price is good based on how it compares to a brand’s reputation.

In other words, a high price isn’t a deterrent to many consumers, as long as it corresponds to a positive reputation. When price and reputation seem misaligned, consumers are turned off....

The pros and cons of Google's new press release policy

The pros and cons of Google's new press release policy | Social Media and Content Marketing are the better SEO Tools | Scoop.it

Google likes to keep us PR pros on our toes.

Last year the big update to search results came through the “nuclear bomb” that was Panda 4.0. The age of the keyword was essentially over, and proper storytelling blogs and press releases were in. Many claimed that SEO was on its way out completely.

Recently, Google made even more changes. Though the advent of Panda 4.0 made press releases seem borderline useless, the search engine has now revalued them. There’s one big alteration, though, that changes the way savvy PR pros should use press releases....
