Content Curation (Real Time) vs. Automation - The Value Differential

Content Curation (Real Time) vs. Automation - The Value Differential | Curation, Social Business and Beyond | Scoop.it

Robin Good found this wonderful piece

A short article by Jay Pinkert, but pointing to an increasingly critical issue for anyone interested in curation. The value differential.

From the article: "The essence of curation, then, is the curator’s informed and discriminating point of view and active participation.

As with most endeavors that require extra personal attention and effort, there’s strong temptation to look for shortcuts – that means you, Paper.li and Summify.

It’s worth noting that Twitter ranking/management clients like TwitCleaner classify tools that auto-aggregate and auto-tweet your content feed as “app spam.”

Over-reliance on those tools can negatively impact your social media profile and rankings, and those items are less likely to be stichared than ones you’ve clearly considered and bundled on your own."

However, there are other applications that help make the work of genuine curation more manageable.

Four of the most promising content curation tools are:

*Storify

*Scoop.it  (Jan)   I love Scoopit! Easy to use, online community, looks good

*Curated.by

*Pearltrees

Thanks for pointing this out Robin: we totally editorial control is key as that's what brings the essential human touch needed when curating.

Thanks for posting this Robin, it's something that I think we all need to pay attention to - part of curating is having conversations, stimulating new thought, collaboration and opinions - it's hard to do that if you're automating your content. Having said that, many of us are on different time zones, kind of hard to converse in real time. Curation is a work in progress....

SportCaster app brings power of Twitter to your favorite sport | Curation, Social Business and Beyond | Scoop.it
The SportCaster app brings in curated Twitter feeds along with news, stats and scores for your favorite sport.

Just in time for the football season, OneLouder has released the SportCaster app as a way to get real-time stats and curated Twitter feeds on your handset. Any sports fans out there should definitely give this app a shot.

The SportCaster app aims to be your one-stop shop for sports goodness, as it will launch with the NFL and college football stats and feeds but it plans to eventually bring on all the major sports (let’s hope there’s an NBA season). Along with things like real-time scores, stats and schedules, the neat thing about this app is that it will draw in curated Twitter feeds to give you more information.

Twitter Just Got the Respect it Deserves

Twitter Just Got the Respect it Deserves | Curation, Social Business and Beyond | Scoop.it

Great article, it's about time! "If you're one to check your analytics on a daily basis you may have noticed a pretty sharp increase in referrals from Twitter's...

Here's the bottom line:

What This Means

Frankly, a lot of things.

Firstly, in the eyes of the media, Twitter is a truly influential source of traffic

Twitter will now be recognised as a hugely influential source of social media traffic. Where as before, because it was only possible to track traffic coming from Twitters web interface, it was impossible to truly measure the impact Twitter brought through referrals. Going forward, you’ll begin to see the influence the entire Twitter ecosystem (and specific tweets) have on the traffic to your site. StumbleUpon and Facebook have duked it out for king of social media traffic but for many sites, that may have just changed… (see next point)

Twitter users are more likely to impact your brand than any other social network

Twitter users are more likely to impact your brand than any other social network | Curation, Social Business and Beyond | Scoop.it

No surprises here, great article with some facts to back it up.

Now, more than ever, is the time for brands and companies to begin understanding how the chaotic and real-time world of Twitter can massively influence the ways in which consumers perceive them.

With so many different channels of communication and new social networks popping up every other day, it’s not difficult to see why brands tend to miss the mark when it comes to efficiently using individual marketing platforms for their intended purpose. For example, although Facebook is obviously a social networking tool, the majority of consumers who use Facebook are not quite the same as Twitter users when it comes to influencing the general public about a brand.

Twitter users are an entirely different breed of consumers and need to be treated as such if a brand hopes to succeed on the platform.

How do I figure?

In a recent report from Exact Target (a global Software as a Service leader that connects customers with organizations through marketing), it’s been found that daily active Twitter users — AKA, the consumers who actually reach out to or follow brands via Twitter — are 3x more likely to amplify the influence of that brand than, say, a Facebook user would.
