Jane Hart: Social Learning Handbook 2014 « Centre for Learning & Performance Technologies | computer human interaction | Scoop.it

Although social learning is something that we have always done, it  has often been  ignored or misunderstood by the training industry. Now, however, the proliferation of social tools makes this a powerful way to improve workplace performance. When we consider what social learning means inside an organization, it’s not just adding social media to instructional programmes or letting people interact with one another. It’s more about helping people learn from one another as they work together – enhanced by collaborative enterprise social tools. Learning in today’s networked workplace is not just being trained to do a task, but about learning with and from one another as we face new challenges. - See more at: http://c4lpt.co.uk/social-learning-handbook-2014/#sthash.xZE4HSdf.dpufAlthough social learning is something that we have always done, it  has often been  ignored or misunderstood by the training industry. How to use Voice Dictation on Your iPad and iPhone - teachingwithipad.org | computer human interaction | Scoop.it

"Do you see that microphone button at the bottom left of the iPad screen when the keyboard appears? I always knew about the dictation feature, but I never really used it before a couple weeks ago. I’m actually writing this post by speaking it, all while in the car! The accuracy is quite good, there are rarely any mistakes if you speak clearly.

I’ve been using it recently for a lot of things: text messages, emails, and blogging."

Voice dictation works well if you speak slowly and clearly in short bursts and still quicker than typing. You can even speak the punctuation you require. Accuracy is very good though still good to proof read it just in case before submitting anything.

Peter Evans's curator insight, November 26, 2013 8:47 AM

I'd suggest a lot of the more innovative university programmes are already doing much of what is suggested here. One thing to emphasise is supporting students to use digital tools specifically for learning as they generally already know how to use these tools. In otherwords, while students may often be digitally competent, they are often less digitally literate in terms of learning processes. Also, what refer to PDAs - surely old tech?

46 Tools To Make Infographics In The Classroom

Infographics are interesting–a mash of (hopefully) easily-consumed visuals (so, symbols, shapes, and images) and added relevant character-based data (so, numbers, words, and brief sentences).

The learning application for them is clear, with many academic standards–including the Common Core standards–requiring teachers to use a variety of media forms, charts, and other data for both information reading as well as general fluency. It’s curious they haven’t really “caught on” in schools considering how well they bridge both the old-form textbook habit of cramming tons of information into a small space, while also neatly overlapping with the dynamic and digital world.
