Medicine, dominated as it is by pharmaceutical (chemical) interests does not tell us about these things.

Sitting ducks: the hours we don't realise we're bumming around are making us sick

Sitting ducks: the hours we don't realise we're bumming around are making us sick | Complementary Health | Scoop.it
YOU probably don't realise how much time you spend on your backside.

With sitting considered to be the new smoking, updated data from a long-running Australian study reveals people aren't even aware of the extent of their sedentary behaviour.

According to a 12-year follow-up of 11,000 people involved in the Australian Diabetes, Obesity and Lifestyle Study, the amount of time spent sitting each day averaged 500 minutes when measured by a portable device -- yet the participants themselves thought it was only 200 minutes a day.

"The problem of too much sitting is a relatively new consideration in public health, so it is not surprising that many Australians are not fully aware of just how much time they actually spend sitting," said David Dunstan, the head of physical activity at Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute.

Magnesium ... it's such an important mineral that doctors always have it ready in the emergency room.

Only they won't tell you to take more of it to stay healthy in the first place. Wonder why.

Arun Shrivastava's curator insight, June 2, 2013 12:32 AM

Magnesium is vital to stay healthy. Common foods that we eat in India and South Asia gives sufficient dosing unless one is on packaged foods. Dhania [dry coriander], Tulsi [Basil], all kinds of seeds [flax, linseed, pumpkin, watermelon seeds, dried and powdered]...Easiest source is Panchphoran [the five spices] that we use in everyday cooking.

For flue like condition we used to take five basil leaves and add four or five black pepper corns with a little rock salt, chew the stuff and swallow with warm water.
