On Asian American Privilege

On Asian American Privilege | Community Village Daily | Scoop.it

"The explosion of online race talk about Asian Americans lately is enough to make your head spin. Are we progressive or conservative? Are we rich or poor? Are we privileged or oppressed? And the thorniest of all: are we allies or colluders on the question of anti-blackness?"

Community Village Sites's insight:

I think U.S. groups are still segregated so much that people don't even know other groups well enough to know them as fellow humans with the same needs, wants, desires and frailties.

One thing remains constant though. Everyone knows which group is the largest oppressor, and that many oppressors are equal opportunity oppressors.

After reading "The Warmth of Other Suns" this kind of violence against Black people sounds like more of the same that has happened since the first Africans were brought to Virginia in 1619.

▶ Was This Execution Cruel And Unusual?

"An attorney for the family of a killer whose Ohio execution by lethal injection was marked by several minutes of unprecedented gasping and unusual sounds plans to sue the state over what happened. Dayton defense lawyer John Paul Rion says Dennis McGuire's family is deeply disturbed by his execution and believes it violated his constitutional rights. Rion is a member of a state Supreme Court panel examining possible changes to Ohio's death penalty law. He said Thursday all citizens have a right to expect they won't be punished in a cruel and unusual fashion...".* Ben Mankiewicz (co-host, What The Flick?! and TYT Sports) breaks it down on The Young Turks.

▶ 'Popcorn Killer' Uses Stand Your Ground To Justify Theater Slaying

"The sheriff who's investigating the fatal shooting of a moviegoer this week in Florida said the state's "stand your ground" defense doesn't apply in this case, but an attorney said it likely does.

"What most people don't understand is, the law is not concerned with what started your argument; the law is not concerned about how petty it is," attorney Stephen Romine told First Coast News. "The law is concerned about the acts between two people — the person who died and the person who did the shooting."

Retired police captain Curtis Reeves was charged with second-degree murder after he shot 43-year-old Chad Oulson to death Monday afternoon because he refused to stop sending a text message to his 2-year-old daughter's day care provider.

Reeves told investigators that he feared for his safety when he was struck in the face with an object that investigators determined was popcorn, but his attorney suggested may have been a more dangerous object."* John Iadarola (TYT University), Ben Mankiewicz (Turner Classic Movies) and Gina Grad (The Gina Grad Show) break it down.

How Justin Bieber Got Deported

How Justin Bieber Got Deported | Community Village Daily | Scoop.it

"Or actually, he didn't.

Canadian teenage pop sensation, Justin Bieber, appears to be suffering from "affluenza." But if he isn't careful, he will be on a one-way ticket to Canada.

...

The teen superstar is here on a temporary visa, an O-1, which is usually reserved for foreign nationals with extraordinary ability. There are several ways in which he can be subject to deportation. While he is in jail, ICE could place a hold on him for his DUI charge in Florida, and take Bieber into custody even before he is convicted of any charges. If Bieber is prosecuted and convicted of the felony charge in California for egging his neighbor’s home, depending on the prison term, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) can initiate deportation proceedings, and possibly deport him to Canada."

Community Village Sites's insight:

▶ Maternal Colonialism: Feminism - Mexica Movement

Feminism was created as the means for white women to gain the same stolen and genocidal fruits of male dominated white supremacy.
Community Village Sites's insight:

If feminism = pro women's rights. All women (regardless or race or time) who respect themselves and all men who love women are feminists.

The concept of women's rights existed before the English word 'feminist' and before the books on feminism were written.

feminism: the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men.

Feminism will overlap with racism, but that doesn't mean that feminism is bad. It means racism that exists within feminism is bad.
