3 Ways Brands Are Destroying Social Media

3 Ways Brands Are Destroying Social Media | communication technology | Scoop.it

Brands affect how social media is perceived--and it's not all good.

I have a confession to make: Every day, I help brands craft content that is spread across social networks. I celebrate when we reach fan milestones, write a really engaging post, or come up with a great way to connect on an emerging network.

But there are many times when seeing brands on social media makes me want to slam my head against my screen. Brands are under immense pressure to have a presence and make an impact--pressure that has led them to try just about anything, causing them to potentially damage their reputation (and the actual benefit of social media) in the process. Here are some examples of brands that are taking the "social" out of social media and hurting the channel.

What IS Social Media Monitoring?

What IS Social Media Monitoring? | communication technology | Scoop.it

"Sometimes, it’s easy for those of us in the SMM industry to forget that – to the ordinary person – the world of social media monitoring can be a confusing one.

We’re guessing that if you’re reading this, you either already know of us and therefore have some knowledge of social media monitoring, or you have come here through a search engine, in which case you may know very little (if so, hi, we’re Brandwatch, a social media monitoring company).

In basic terms, social media monitoring is the act of using a tool to, well, monitor what is being said on the internet.

It sometimes also goes by the name of, or is bundled with, Social Listening, Online Analytics, Buzz Analysis, Social Media Measurement, Social Media Intelligence, Social Media Management, SMM (also the acronym for Social Media Marketing, confusingly) … we could go on".

4 things to remember about social media analytics :: BtoB Magazine | communication technology | Scoop.it

Condensed...

Here are four things all marketers should know before sending out another tweet or posting to a company blog.

1) Measuring sentiment is as important as measuring impressions or follows.

2) Some of the most important social mentions won't use your company or product names.

3) Every tool that provides a metric is not the same.

4) Social media data has an expiration date and limitations.
