UC Davis

UC Davis | College Tips for my Cousin Ken | Scoop.it
One of the top public research universities in the world, UC Davis offers undergraduates a challenging education and unmatched research and internship opportunities in every academic discipline. You will become part of an active, diverse student community on a beautiful campus immersed in the arts.
Ellie's insight:

UC Davis is famous for its agricultural and veterinarian schools.  Davis is 15 miles or so to Sacramento.  I'm gonna be honest, there's nothing out there to do.  There's barely anything to do in Sacramento, I can't imagine Davis.  Despite the location, UC Davis is a great school! I imagine the university will compensate with activities for students because of the location.

10 reasons to live in a dorm

10 reasons to live in a dorm | College Tips for my Cousin Ken | Scoop.it
Ready to turn in your shower shoes? Remember that the dorm experience is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Ellie's insight:

I am a big believer in living in the dorms FRESHMAN YEAR.  I tell everyone that dorm life is the quintessential college experience AND where you will make most of your life long college friends.  You will never have another experience in life like dorm life, so don't miss it.  You will all grow and be socialized into college life together with dorm experience.  It's one of the best times in your life.

In my own experience I lived in the dorm all of my undergrad.  I was also a Resident Advisor (R.A.) later and got free housing, free meal plan, and free phone service.  If you enjoy dorm life, you can apply to be an R.A.  Otherwise you can always get an apartment with friends after freshman year.
