Trebbiano (Ugni Blanc) Wine Information

Trebbiano is a white wine grape that originated in Italy, but has successfully migrated to other European wine regions. The variety's most notable migration was to the west of France, where it goes by the name Ugni Blanc and is the key grape of Cognac.
Jean-Luc Montembault's insight:
A short history of Ugni Blanc grape that is most grown to produce cognac, brought from Italy to France by monks thanks to a pope who moved from Rome to Avignon.

This introduction has to be linked with many ruins of abbayes in the Charentes.

Another way to discover the Cognac country.

A decorated flask found in a Cognac field was the inspiration for one of spirits' leading brands, Louis XIII

Jean-Luc Montembault's insight:
The Land of Cognac has long been marked by the Catholic and Protestant religions.
Many places, often melted in the landscape, bear the mark.

The world of cognac and its organization still live with the consequences of the religious confrontation, whose origin comes from the Renaissance.

Do you doubt it? Explore the vineyard on the trail of this history. Perhaps you will discover a part of it at the bottom of your glass ...

Oldies but goodies.

Jean-Luc Montembault's insight:

1270 is the year when Frapin family located in the Charente vineyards.

This family succeeded to combine the commercial techniques of the major trading houses and the know-how to traditional winemakers-distillers to offer today cognacs only from its own vineyards.

Only this is worth making the trip to Segonzac

A quick tour at Chateau fontpinot, the house of Cognac Frapin

A quick tour at Chateau fontpinot, the house of Cognac Frapin | The Cognac and its vineyards | Scoop.it

Cognac : the very word embodies sophistication and class.  This ancient drink should not be confused with brandies from Spain, Cyprus or other countries  ...

Jean-Luc Montembault's insight:

Frapin has a specific position in the Cognac world. Like few trading houses it is known almost worldwide but it is not a trading house !

Like a number of family estates, Frapin distils wines coming only from their own vineyards and market only them but they are known worldwide like no other family estate !

If to this specific position you add the quality of their cognacs coming from the best growth area, the Grande Champagne vineyards, then you understand why visiting this estate is quite an experience ...

Jean-Luc Montembault's insight:

For those who want to revise their knowledge of cognac before the Christmas holiday season, here is a beautiful presentation to read without moderation.

It is also a beautiful invitation to visit the vineyards and discover its secrets and, why not, offer a winetour as a Christmas gift.

See you soon in the vineyard and, until then, enjoy nice tastings.
