Why is Ronaldo hated? Because he is good and cocky. He knows he's the best and he knows he has the swagger to do anything he wants on the field or outside the field. In a interview he even said he was the best soccer player. He is also known to be a good looking man which makes him more cocky.

There is a fine line between being confident and being “cocky” (overconfident).  I always want my players to play with great confidence, but I never want it to creep into the sector of “cockiness”....

What is the difference between cockiness and confidence? Confidence is a way to be prepared and ready to challenge the quest without being scared or doubtful. Coaches like better confident player then cocky players who plays with more swagger then talent. A confident player can is also a leader in his own way. The key to succeed is confidence, humility and hard work.

Every athlete is egotistical and that is just the nature of the game. In order to beat the best you must always know you're the best. Unfortunately, that doesn't always transcend from their conscience to their win column.

Why are some athletes so hated? Because of their talent or because of their talent? Both are consequence of being an unliked athletes in sports. To beat the best you have to know you are the best, you have to believe that you are unstoppable. Some athletes just go a bit to far thinking they are the best, they don't keep it to themselves they tell it to everyone and they want the world to know. For example FLoyd Mayweather dares to say that he better then the all time best boxer Muhammad Ali.
