There are many different methods and techniques that can be used in data centre cooling systems, such as liquid cooling and room, row or rack-orientated ventilation. The centre in this video uses an evaporative cooling system, in which pure water is sprayed into the air to cool it down.

Licklider (cited in Standage, 2014) expressed his vision of an 'intergalactic network' which connected users together in a system through which data, information and storage capacity could be supplied with great ease and simplicity. Over the past half century technologies and concepts developed from parallel computing and the mainframe era have evolved to make this vision a reality. Today the concept is known as 'cloud computing' and it has taken the world by storm.
