Most of our ways of understanding the world are narratives of one form or another, whether serious scientific stories ("the apple obeyed gravity"), conceptual metaphors ("the PM deliberately undermined the euro"), or the kind of tales we use to justify our choices in life ("I set out wanting to be a human rights lawyer, but corporate oil law actually does a lot of good too").
