clare mccaleb's insight:

union: Robert Kellogg cared for many of the men wounded after the difficult battles just like the women who also did so. One women's name is Mary Edwards Walker who was the first female army surgeon. Most men strongly disagreed with this, because they did not like the idea of women dressing the wounds of men they did not know.

Confederate: W. Adams regiment had many men taken prisoners during battle just like many during the war. Because this war was against it's own country each side treated their prisoners with both hostality and sympathy. The confederates especially treated the union prisoners with hostility, because the African American soldiers were not to be accepted at all in the South. The food shortages to the prisoners was also a big problem, because at some points there were so many prisoners that needed food to eat.
