A new approach to royalty free & stock music — DSLR Solutions

A new approach to royalty free & stock music — DSLR Solutions | Cinematography | Scoop.it

I recently had the pleasure of purchasing the latest album from Luke Neumann at Neumann Films titled “The Drama Toolbag“. The vibe of this new album fit perfectly into a project that I have had on the back burner for awhile now. In fact, the album has provided some needed inspiration to get back out and do some filming...

6 Cameras to Ease Your Way Into Shooting 4K Video

6 Cameras to Ease Your Way Into Shooting 4K Video | Cinematography | Scoop.it

To record in 4K or not to record in 4K, that is the (admittedly awkward) question many photographers and videographers are grappling with. As momentum continues to build behind the new format, you might find yourself grappling with it, too.

If you’re considering the jump to 4K, we’ve selected six video cameras that deliver it in a package that’s affordable, preserves your ability to shoot in HD and is relatively easy to use if you know your way around an HD digital SLR. Workflows for 4K are still maturing, so some solutions require proprietary memory formats and/or software for post-processing, but hey, no pain, no gain, right?

The difference in pricing is staggering. But the price doesn't always influence productivity. This was informative on a budgeting aspect, which troubles any and everyone in the movie making industry.

Sony F55 Simultaneous RAW & HD Recording & Workflow, by Andy Shipsides (2 Videos)

Posted by Andy Shipsides on June 25, 2013 •

"One of  the big advantages of the Sony F55 is its ability to record both RAW and HD at the same time (this is true of the F5 as well). When paired with the Sony AXS-R5 recorder, the F5/F55 can record 16-bit RAW data to AXS media cards, and HD video (MPEG2 or XAVC) to SxS cards. This gives you an easy-to-use offline editing format as well as an extremely high quality online Raw format at the same time. Workflows like this are used all the time these days, but the F5 & F55 make it particularly easy. For an in-depth look at this workflow in action, watch my two videos – in the first part above, I explain how to set up the camera for simultaneous recording, including how to add a LUT to the HD recording, and in the second video below, I complete the online/offline workflow, showing how to take a basic HD edit and match it back to the 4K RAW content."

ARRI ALEXA: Back to Cannes with DPs of Award-Winning Films (25:44)

ARRI ALEXA: Back to Cannes with DPs of Award-Winning Films (25:44) | Cinematography | Scoop.it

Posted by ARRI on June 7, 2013 •

"ARRI had a strong presence at the Cannes International Film Festival again in 2013, with a hospitality tent on the beach and a buzzing 'Happy Hour' event to celebrate the company's ongoing partnership with Director's Fortnight. ARRI cameras also had a strong presence: of the 84 feature films in all of the festival selections, over 60% were shot with ARRI digital or film cameras, and well over 40% were captured with ALEXA.

Amid all the excitement, ARRI recorded video interviews with three cinematographers who had award-winning films at the festival, all of them captured with ALEXA. HELI, shot by Lorenzo Hagerman, won Best Director for Amat Escalante; OMAR, shot by Ehab Assal, won the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize; and ILO ILO, shot by Benoit Soler, won the Caméra d'Or."
