"This normally ensures that the nail will not grow back again. A dressing will then be applied to the toe and the patient will be able to walk normally, although they are advised not to drive whilst the toe is numb."
Nicolas explains, as a qualified chiropodist in EC2, what the follow-up involves.
"The patient will normally have to attend the clinic to have the toe dressed within a few days of the operation being carried out. The dressing will require changing on a daily basis until healing is complete. This level of aftercare is something I see an important in my role as a chiropodist in EC2."

"This can be because the nails are ingrown, involuted, infected, deformed, or have a fungal infection" Nicolas continues. Nicolas continues "There is sometimes confusion amongst people outside the health professions as to what the difference between a chiropodist and a podiatrist".
"Officially there is no difference between the two, however recently the term podiatry has become more commonly used, as it refers to the assessment of foot disorders to diagnose and treat a large range of foot pathologies" Nicolas explains.

"However, some conditions I see in my work as a chiropodist in EC2 may require partial or full removal of the nail. It is often possible to remove only the side of the nail that is causing problems to ensure, as much as possible, a satisfactory aesthetic appearance to the nail" Nicolas explains.
"This is something that is discussed and agreed with the patient before the procedure starts. As a chiropodist in EC2 I can assure my patients that the techniques I use, using local anaesthetic, make the procedure as painless as possible. Most of my patients report no or only slight discomfort during or post-surgery" Nicolas says.
