The Face of Depression

The Face of Depression | Working Mom | Scoop.it
I began Afro-Chic Mompreneur to be a guide for the working mom. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard people say, you can not do it all. You can not be a good mom and have a successful business, yet there are many great women doing it, and doing a pretty damn good job at it. I take it a step further and say not only can you do it, but you can do it and be fabulous. I hope that I can continue to share on other platforms, with great women.

Get More Conversions Using These 12 Twitter Stats #infographic | Working Mom | Scoop.it
Twitter is an excellent social media platform to grow your brand, both personally and as a company. It is great for introducing new prospects to what you offer, and for converting your existing followers into leads and sales.

Out of all the marketers currently using Twitter, only 34% of them are successfully generating leads via the social network. Understanding Twitter can help you generate more leads isn’t going to magically make them pour in, and firing off random Tweets isn’t the best strategy, either.

Social Media, The Smart Blogger's Playground I

Social Media, The Smart Blogger's Playground I | Working Mom | Scoop.it
Blogging is hot right now, but simply deciding to blog, will not guarantee success.  Every smart blogger knows that after building a visually appealing blog, and creating great content, you have to get your content to your audience.

Social Media simplifies that process.
If you take a moment to look up at the top of my sidebar, the first thing you see is my social follow icons.  This makes it easy for my readers to connect with me on several platforms, and when you finish reading this article, at the bottom, you will see the share icons.  For those, like yourselves, who may have heard about me through social media or my readers, to share my posts.  Please feel free to do so, 'sharing is sexy' is case you did not know ;-)

Why Every Busy Mom Should Love Planks

Why Every Busy Mom Should Love Planks | Working Mom | Scoop.it
As a busy, work from home mom with a full time business, my life can be very chaotic.  It seems like I am always putting someone else first.  From my sweet hubby to our four children and clients, somebody usually always needs something from mom, and I love it.  I love taking care of them, but there are things that I know, should be a priority for me.

2014 was a life changing year for my family, but even more so for myself.  We left the state that we called home, and relocated to OH.  Everyone loves it here, but no one more so than mom. Our neighborhood is so peaceful, we are surrounded by other successful black families. The school district is amazing compared to the one we left in Baltimore.  I have redefined my company, and launched a blog! Despite all of these incredible changes and achievements, the one that has mattered most to me, has been my fitness and health journey.

Pinterest Could Be Working On Adding A “Buy” Button To Their Site

Pinterest Could Be Working On Adding A “Buy” Button To Their Site | Working Mom | Scoop.it
Earlier we reported that Pinterest had debuted a new “apps Pin” feature that basically allowed Pinterest users to discover new apps that they might have missed, and also the ability to install said app on their phone within the Pinterest app itself. That is a pretty neat function, but what about the rest of the pins?

Could these pins be gaining more functionality? According to the folks at Re/code, the answer is yes and it could come in the form of a “Buy” button. Basically if you like what you see in the pin, the Buy button could allow you to purchase it without having to leave the company’s website or the app.

Fostering Women Leaders: A fitness test for your top team

Fostering Women Leaders: A fitness test for your top team | Working Mom | Scoop.it

The challenges are well known: women in business continue to face a formidable gender gap for senior-leadership positions.1 Moreover, there are fewer and fewer women at each step along the path to the C-suite, although they represent a majority of entry-level employees at Fortune 500 companies and outnumber men in college-graduation rates.2 Increasingly, the barriers too are well known: a mix of cultural factors, ingrained mind-sets, and stubborn forms of behavior, including a tendency to tap a much narrower band of women leaders than is possible given the available talent pool.

Social Media, The Smart Blogger's Playground II: Discover TSU & VCB

Social Media, The Smart Blogger's Playground II: Discover TSU & VCB | Working Mom | Scoop.it
I received an email from a reader this week asking me what she can do to grow her business blog.  I asked her what she currently does, and she said that she writes great content.

-Great, but what do you do after you post your content?

-I post the content and I wait for my readers to come.

Mmmm, that would be a great plan if you are, let's say, Angelina Jolie.  Everyone knows Angelina, her name is probably searched in a day more times than mine will be in my lifetime.  But, for a small business owner, or a blogger blogging to make some an income, you are planning to fail.

Social media is the most affordable way to drive traffic to your website/blog.  In the lifetime of my blog, I have probably spent $50 on marketing for blog or business, instead I take the time to reach my audience the smart way.

The problem with social media, is the time it takes, and some people do not have that time, which is why, virtual teams like mine, are in business.  But for those of you who may not be able to afford to hire a Social Media Manager, understanding the platforms at your disposal, how they work, and why is extremely important.  Of course, there are plenty of time saving apps out there, and we will discuss them soon."

By the time my clients hire me, they have completely given up and are ready to leave blogging behind.
