The organization that was talked about today by Craig Hynes was Youth unlimited Waterloo- Oxford and it is a faith based organization. Going to school to be a Child and youth Worker is three to four years in college and it can also be done in university. A child and youth worker can make up to fifty thousand dollars a year, all depending on the people they are working for and what company.
Youth Unlimited is a global community with over four thousand five hundred workers in over one hundred countries helping teenagers. Youth unlimited is an association of twenty four chapters and each chapter has an independent board or directors and has achieved charitable status through the offices of CCRA in Ottawa.
Youth unlimited provide….
1. Mentorship- youth unlimited workers are positive, adult role models helping teenagers through a holist approach- mental, physical, emotional and spiritual.
2. Youth Guidance- during high school teens are faced with many challenges in their life, like whether or not to use drugs, become sexual active, picking a career, relationships- developing good judgement takes practice and Youth unlimited wants to be apart of the process1
3. Crisis management- grief, family breakdown, suicide, bullying- no one should feel like they need to deal with these situations alone.
4. Coaching/ clubs
    Fall term- volleyball/ field hockey
    Winter term- volleyball/ wrestling
    Spring term- Rugby
Year round- Crusaders with a cause (CWAC)
These are all things that make child and youth workers important in the schools today because teachers don’t know how to deal with these situations and how to handle them.
Youth Unlimited believes that it takes a community to raise a child and that teenagers are worth investing in and they need significant adult role models as they face complex issues at earlier ages than ever before. Child and youth workers are committed to being involved in the lives of teenagers on a daily basis.
Maybe a teen needs someone to talk to why not talk to a child and youth worker at your school you never know they might be able to help you with that issue no matter how small it is!
