Experiment in Ethiopia: Within minutes of arrival, the tablets were unboxed and turned on by the kids themselves. After the first week, on average, 47 apps were used per day. After week two, the kids were playing games to race each other in saying the ABCs.

 

If kids in Ethiopia learn to read without school, what does that say about kids in New York City who do not learn even with school?

I saw a lot of slides and most of them I can't even remember. But the few that I do I'll remember forever.

 

Human beings remember things that matter. So lots of charts, slides, and numbers may be important, but they're hard to retain.

 

Memorable speeches build a connection between the speaker and the audience and stories--especially personal ones--are what make that connection last.

 

Enthusiasm & story line isn't everything. 

Information really does matter and however evangelical the delivery, substance beats style every time.

Stories--the right stories--take facts out of the abstract and make them engaging and memorable. Images only work when they say something.
