Prince Edward Island, Canada – Mostly Flat and Very Picturesque - By Graeme Edwards

In September we had the opportunity to visit Prince Edward Island, one of the maritime provinces in Canada. We stayed with some good friends in Charlottetown, the capital of the province and it was from here that we were able to do some cycling on the island. PEI is an island of contrasts with a rich maritime history, red sands and home to the famous not-to-be-missed lobster supper.

Epping to Gosford - By “Flash” (aka Marjorie Au)

"Here's a different and challenging ride!" I thought as I scanned the BN Ride Calendar to see a Fran Griffin-led ride. "Mmm, graded Hard at a Brisk pace (ie. 22-24kph).....ouch!" Well, nothing ventured is nothing gained, and worst-case scenario I would be turning around at Mt White and catching the train back from Brooklyn whilst the others pressed on, so, with a hint of trepidation, I fronted up at Epping Station at 7.15am on that fresh Sunday morning.

BNCC 2011 - "The Wrap" - By Doug Stewart, Event Organiser

Sunday the 1st of May dawned clear and bright on 61 Bike North members as they rose to make final preparations for "the challenge". The sunshine was unexpected, given the weather of the previous week, but very welcome, given that almost everyone was about to take on their most difficult ride of the year.

The "Autumn Classics" 2010 - by Keith Griffin

In recent years, during the famous European "Spring Classics" cycling season, an increasing number of Bike North riders has been taking part in a parallel antipodean series of Bike North Autumn Classics. Our series is unofficial, much less competitive and includes several events not organised by Bike North.

Put the good one on the front - by Dr Spoke (aka D Stewart)

A situation we all wish to avoid is the front tyre failing by puncture or blowout. If the front tyre fails our bikes are difficult to steer and we may run off the road. Depending on speed and direction this may end with serious consequences!!

Cycling - Get Into It!! - By Mal Hart, BN Rides Coordinator

As I've become more enthusiastic about cycling, I've had greater motivation to talk to friends and colleagues about this passion - of course to try and convince them to take it up. In the workplace there are great opportunities for cycling promotion and influence.

It's only about 5-6 weeks to go before we expect that the new shared user path (SUP) along Epping Rd will be fully open and ready to use. This path will connect to the shared user paths that were completed last year along the Gore Hill Freeway and along Epping Rd west of the Lane Cove River.

Ride to school - By Chris Hart (aged 10yrs)

I love to ride to school because it’s the best way to get fresh air in the morning. I don’t know why more people don’t ride to school. There never seem to be many bikes in the racks at my school.

True Colours - By Keith Griffin

There is a story attached to the design of the Bike North jersey, but I'll leave that to be told by someone who was "there at the time", like Doug Stewart. My interest is not so much in its history as in its use. On Bike North rides lately, I have noted how few people are wearing the Bike North jersey.

Why don't Sydney's Transit Lanes work? - By Alister Sharp
