With the new wave of iTunes Radio, Tidal and Spotify and other streaming services of this sort I could see CD's becoming completely obsolete in the near future because of poor revenue.

The Wall Street Journal is about as credible of a source you can find out there.  The article talk about the decline of CD sales and clearly shows in the graph just how far CD sales have declined.  You can also see a big drop in purchased music in general.  I think this can be credited to the fact that so many people are using streaming services instead of buying music at all now.  It's so much easier and way more convenient to just load up any song you want on Spotify or Apple Music than to have to buy a CD.

Downloading Increases While CD Sales Decline | Pollstar

CD sales were down and music listening and digital download purchases were up in 2008, but you won’t find anyone popping bottles of bubbly in celebration of this news, if only because online music sales have yet to replace lost CD revenue.
