Support needed for Basingstoke Young Carers
Basingstoke Gazette
A SERVICE which supports hundreds of young carers in the Basingstoke area desperately needs local support.
Rachelle Howard's insight:

Many #carers projects encounter difficulty in obtaining funding, particularly young carers grups; is it the 'hidden' element of the caring role do you think? Another example of inequalities in health and wellbeing? Can you help redress the balance?

Rachelle Howard's insight:

Nowadays, my Carers Care Manager is great!  Prior to my cared for reaching adulthood, I had little support and certainly no carers assessment via CAMHS or Social Care. Children & Families Social Care seem to not understand the Carer role at all!  :-(  I have been told by one worker if they had Carer Awareness Training, as I suggested; they could not do their job!? (Neglect and Abuse has never featured in my caring role?!!!)  Despite a local Carers Charter & Carers Rights. I also feel mental health awareness is lacking in Social Care too.

Rachelle Howard's insight:

Sadly so true! :-(  I was lucky to be involved, via my Carers Centre, in a pilot of 'Looking After Me' the Expert Patient Programme course for Carers, which I then went onto to Facilitate :-D  Without it I would have been very isolated and uninformed in the early years.
