Parents should support their kids in identifying what to do after 10 th
? Indian
parents are known to be most possessive and  protective about their kids.
They invest so much of their time and savings for their children unlike parents
in west. Despite
they want all good for their child they seldom ignore the fact that in the
process they are imposing many of their thoughts and biased ideas on their
child on name of careers and education. Many
Indian parents end up forcing kids to take ‘Maths’ after 10 th class
because of great belief that taking maths as a subject is very safe option and
it leaves many many career options open to students. Partly
it was true say 30-40 years back when jobs were only available in science
stream mainly medicine and engineering.  But in today’s date while it’s
globalization and increasing competition, such believes and myths leads to harm
of their own child’s career. Today
all careers have equal opportunity in terms of satisfaction and career growth.
Parents hence should understand this and allow their children to have flexible
choice of stream after 10 th . Most
importantly is that instead of imposing a choice they should rather help them
by taking them to a career counselor or themselves get into conversation of
career planning. Every
student should be taken through a brainstorming session on : What should be  Career Options after
10 th   .   This
could be facilitated by schools and school principals or by local career
counselors.  Children should be given all career options matching with
respect to stream choice and take them through career education.  This can
lead to much smarter choice by children  leading to good grades, cracking
competitions and also a smart career opportunity.
