CamStudio - Free Screen Recording Software

CamStudio - Free Screen Recording Software | CamStudio Open Source Free Video Streaming Software | Scoop.it
CamStudio is an open source free video streaming software that records all screen and audio activity on your computer. It creates industry-standard AVI video files by using the built-in SWF producer which in turn creates streaming Flash Videos that are bandwidth-friendly. There are so many ways to use this software but here are just a few: You can create demonstration videos for any software program. Help people to set up or install different software programs on to their computers. This would be great to use for the workplace.... if you are a manager and have to train your staff on new software, just create video demonstrations using CamStudio to explain how the new software program works. You can create a set of videos answering your most frequently asked questions. If you have created a website and or product, why not stand out from the majority and create a set of videos with FAQ's to help people better understand your product. There are some things that are better understood with a video rather than worded explanations. You can create video tutorials for school and or specific classes. This product is ideal for college students. If there is a class that you excel in, you can create tutorials to help your fellow students who are having trouble. Another great idea would be to create reviews of certain classes that your school/college offers. Maybe there are new classes that have been added to certain majors or subjects, students may be hesitant to sign up for these classes. Use CamStudio to do reviews, giving your peers the pros and cons about the class or classes. You can record a recurring problem with your computer to show people who you call for technical support. We all know how frustrating it can be when you are trying to get your point across to technical support, especially if you have a very specific problem and they can not see your screen. With CamStudio you can create a video of the problems you are having with your computer and send it to technical support in an email. I'm pretty sure anyone in technical support who gets video clarification would greatly appreciate it (They may even be very impressed) You can create video based information products to sell. If you are entrepreneurial minded this product will be great for you because you can make videos to promote new products or software that you would like to sell. How great is it that you can get CamStudio software for free and use it to make unlimited amounts of money. CamStudio can help you create the videos that will help you sell your products or software. If you have a new business you would like to promote or get funding for ….. You can also use CamStudio to create videos to explain your products or services to potential buyers or investors. Investors in particular want to know how a product or service works before they spend their money investing in it. If you can show them videos to explain to them how the product or service works along with a proper demonstrations there should be no further explanations needed. If you are in the network marketing field this software would be great for helping your team with any problems or questions they may have. The network/internet marketing industry is growing at a fast pace so there are many newcomers. Newcomers means that there are plenty of people who will have questions, a lot of questions. You can set up a conference or webinar for your team and play them the recorded videos you have made in advance for the questions they have. There are a lot of visual learners out there so videos are a great way to help not to mention they can be a time saver because a lot of people usually have the same questions. If you own a network marketing company you will need to have trainings provided for your future affiliates and downline. You can use CamStudio to help you create videos for training your company. You can also use it to record new techniques you discover on your favorite software programs. With all the software programs that are around I'm pretty sure that you have your favorites. If you do this is a great time to get creative and put CamStudio to use. When you get a software that you particularly like, you can record all the techniques and things that you love about what you have purchased. Why not put those videos up on YouTube. If you like a particular software program I'm sure that there are many others who like it also. Put your creativity to use and make awesome videos with great quality. If you do so, you will begin to see your video views rise higher and higher. What if you don't like the sound of your own voice? I know that I can be very self conscious when it comes to the sound of my own voice. I'm pretty sure that there are many of you out there that feel the same way that I do. Well, I love that Cam studio also has the ability to add high quality screen captions to your video recordings and with the Video Annotation feature you can personalize your videos by including a webcam movie of yourself “picture in picture” over your desktop. So if you don't like the sound of your voice just take off the audio option and use the screen caption option to type the words that you want to say instead (kind of like closed caption). However if you are going to record your own voice I would recommend you be in a quiet place otherwise it will be very hard for your viewers to hear you with whatever noise is going on in the background. And if all that isn't enough for you, CamStudio also comes with its own Lossless Codec that produces amazingly crystal clear results for your videos, however it has a significantly smaller file size compared to other codecs that are more popular such as Microsoft Video 1. So you can have clear cut videos without having to use up so much file space on your computer. Other codecs like Microsoft Video have a much larger file size which will take up more room on your PC or laptop. And if you are anything like me you need all of the space you can get especially if you use your computer for work, business or gaming. Another feature that I love about this software is that you have total control over the output of your videos. If you would like, you can use custom cursors, you can record the whole screen or just a small section of it and you can also reduce or increase the quality of the recording depending on if you want smaller videos for emailing friends, family, coworkers or colleagues. With this product you can have the best quality videos for burning onto cd's or dvd's. All of these features are priceless because CamStudio is so easy to use. CamStudio can be learned in a few short minutes and it also comes with a comprehensive built in help file, so if your some reason you do need help or manage to get stuck on one of the features all you have to do is simply click on “help” and get all the answers to all of your questions. So How Much Will CamStudio Cost You? You can download and use CamStudio completely free! Yes that's right it's 100% FREE for your personal use and commercial projects because CamStudio and the Codec are released under the GPL (The license needed to make this product free). A Little About CamStudio's History..... CamStudio was originally released by a company called RenderSoft who were subsequently bought by a company called eHelp who used some of the technology in their program, RoboDemo ... Some time later, eHelp was bought by Macromedia who wanted RoboDemo (which was to become Captivate) ... Knowing that CamStudio did some of the stuff RoboDemo did for free (Most importantly exporting to streaming Flash), they released a newer version that fixed some of the bugs, but most importantly it removed certain features. The ability to create SWF's were gone, but added was the requirement to register to use it, and over time, links to various webpages that had CamStudio and its source code, became broken. However, an earlier version was found complete with the related CamStudio video codec (which is comparable to Techsmith's excellent TSCC), and the source code for both were put up on the site so that people could download them..... Some Issues.... A number of people have mentioned that they are having trouble viewing SWF videos generated by CamStudio. It turns out there's a bug which means you can't see anything if you try watching them with Netscape or Firefox (However, Internet Explorer works fine). The next update in the very near future (2.5) will fix this but but until then, here's a temporary workaround: - Open the related HTML to the SWF you've just generated and look for the line starting with the "EMBED SRC" command ... Change the Width and Height values in this line to match values in the line starting with "OBJECT CLASSID". Save the file to your computer and you should be good to go … There also seems to be a lot of questions about a registration code ... the version of CamStudio available from this site doesn't require registration code AND it also has more features, so if the version you have requires a registration code what you should do is uninstall v2.1 from your system, download and install CamStudio from here and you're good to go! No registration code needed! If your computer's memory or virtual memory usage starts climbing rapidly when viewing a SWF authored by CamStudio to the point when your PC locks up so you have to reboot it, recreate the SWF from your source AVI file and in SWF Producer, make sure you select the Advanced tab and check the Memory Management tickbox (Manage Flash player internal memory). That should help fix the problem out. Thanks to Ben Ward for the fix. There are big plans in the works for CamStudio and there will be continuous strides to improve it and the Codec as well ... The potential for CamStudio to be used as a professional training and support tool is huge and not just in the information technology and internet marketing arenas as mentioned previously, but also in diverse markets and tasks like home education, recording online genealogical research, keeping a video record of special offer prices on your favorite snowboarding (or whatever) website - you get the idea... It doesn't matter if you're at home in Las Vegas or on an Alaskan Cruise - if you've got a laptop or PC you can use CamStudio. So if there are any Visual C++ programmers out there that have Flash, video encoding and codec experience who'd like a challenge, please get in touch. So, at some point in the near future donations will be accepted so any coders that work on this project will get some kind of financial reward in addition to the warm, fuzzy feeling they get from helping to resurrect this cracking piece of software... Some Pros about this product.... Some of the Pros that I've found with this product is that it's 100% free, there are no hidden fees, royalties or any monies to pay. You can use it for your personal use like creating videos for friends and family or maybe use the product to create videos of your vacation. You can also use it for commercial uses. Although the product itself is free you can create AVI files and sell them or charge users for products that include those AVI files. If you don't like the sound of your voice or would rather not have any sound to your video you can use add screen captions to your video by using the video annotation feature on this product. There are a ton of custom features with this software. For example.... you can customize your videos by including a picture in picture web cam movie of yourself on your desktop. You can get clearer videos while also having a smaller file size unlike other software such as with the Microsoft Video 1 product. You also have complete and total control over your videos. If you want to record your whole screen you can do that, you can also record smaller sections of your screen, you can make smaller videos for emailing to people or to put on your own website if you have one. If you use the Xvid codec set up you can record up to 3 hours of video on your desktop or laptop The best pro about this feature is that it is so easy to use. CamStudio is so easy that you can learn it in no time which is great for those who aren't very computer savy. In a few short minutes you can be a pro at using the CamStudio software. But just in case you do get stuck on a particular feature of this product all you have to do is click on “help” and any question you have there will be an answer to help you figure out what's going on or where you went wrong. Another great thing about this product is that you can use it on your desktop at home or take it anywhere you go on your laptop. It doesn't matter if you are in the comforts of your own home catching up on some work or you are on vacation in the Cayman Islands or even visiting family in London and want to make a video to send back home to your family and friends. This product can be with you anywhere you go. The potential to use this product for professional training and support is very high. You can use this software for almost any professional or support industry. Many companies use videos to train their new employees on their expected tasks. This is the perfect software to create those high quality videos without having to break the bank because this product is absolutely free! This product is ideal for IT professionals, network marketing, internet marketing and affiliate marketing industries. This product is also great for creating videos for homeschooling. Teachers can use this software to record lessons for their students. They can also record tutorials and email them to students who need a little extra help in certain subject. Videos work great for homeschooling since students often have shorter attention spans, videos usually get their attention. CamStudio can also be very useful for personal use such as recording videos of special offers or sales on things you would like to buy, hobbies and interests. The owner of the CamStudio software has a lot of great ideas to improve the product. If you research you will find many people have great things to say about CamStudio. For example.... Joe Borgione from Alpine Geographics said “Nick, here is what I think I'll do; rather than fork out the $300.00 bucks for [CENSORED], I'll just keep using CamStudio. I am a self-employed consultant that works in the public safety community (cops, fire, ems, dispatch etc). What I have planned is to use CamStudio to capture on screen video for training vids. Thanks for a great product and your help!” Some of the few cons about this product..... Some of the cons with this product is that you may have trouble viewing SWF videos generated by this software. If you use this with internet explorer you will be fine, however people are having problems seeing the videos on Netscape and Firefox. There will be another update in the near future (2.5) and that problem will most definitely be fixed on the updated version. Some people have complained about there being a registration code. However with the version available on this site there is no registration code needed. Your computers memory usage may start to climb very quickly when viewing a SWF video. Camstudio uses a large majority of your computers resources in order to have the highest maximum recording rate possible. You can change the settings to a lower capture rate in order to free up more of your computers resources to do other things. In some cases your computer may lock up and you have to reboot it but they have found a way to fix this.... you have to reboot your computer and use an AVI file in the SWF producer and checking the advanced tab and memory management tickbox. While there is a very detailed FAQ section with this software there is no telephone or email support. If you have any questions you must be able to find the answer in the FAQ section. And they really don't want to answer any technical questions related to the source code. If the answer is not there you may have to do a bit of your own research or sign up for the forum that's provided. By reading around the forum you could possibly find your answer, if not then you can start you own forum to see if someone will answer any of the questions that you may have. YouTube would also be a great resource, there are plenty of how-to videos and tutorials for any of the questions you may have. Most of these videos are made from programmers and experts who are experienced with using CamStudio It also seems that there is a lack of funding for the CamStudio software and there a lot of things that the owner wants to do to make this product more professional. Due to lack of funding the owner would like to start accepting donations in order to pay the programmers who help him out with making CamStudio a better product.
